Chapter 342
Eu Slave
Rachel’s POV
I took it with slightly trembling fingers. Carter had once warned me about David Reynolds–he was as cunning as his Alpha Raymond, with loyalty to no one but himself.
Most of the letter contained information I already knew–troop movements, strategies, detalls about the conflict. But the final paragraph caught my attention:
“I should never have attacked Dylan. Damn Carter for manipulating me into it, but the damage is done. In any case, I have him now… Be careful, Nathan and Rachel are heading toward Emerald City. You should prepare…”
I raised my eyes to Nathan, choking up as I told him, “David caught Carter.”
Elizabeth was already moving toward the door, her posture transforming back to that of a queen–shoulders squared, chin raised, as if she were the victor rather than a dethroned monarch bargaining for her life.
“You’ve verified the information is genuine,” she said smoothly. “My mate and I will leave now, as agreed.”
Nathan moved with startling speed, positioning himself between Elizabeth and the door. “Not so fast.”
Elizabeth’s eyes narrowed dangerously. “Cousin Nathan, are you planning to break Rachel’s promise? A deal is a deal.”
Nathan’s expression remained eerily calm. “I won’t kill you, but we all must face consequences for our actions. Did you really think you could walk away so easily after bringing chaos and destruction to thousands of lives and families?”
Elizabeth’s perfect brow furrowed. “Don’t act so self–righteous, as if you haven’t pursued power yourself,” she spat. “Don’t be so disgusting, pretending you’re some selfless saint!”
Nathan’s lips curved into a cold smile. “You’re right. I’m not. In fact, I hold grudges.”
“So what will you do to us?” Elizabeth scoffed. “Torture us? Let your precious Rachel see what kind of monster you really are?”
“Exile,” Nathan stated simply.
Elizabeth froze, then broke into a wild, bitter laugh. “Why? Why not just let us go? We’ve already lost everything–our kingdom, our child–isn’t that enough?!”
Her composure cracked as Nathan remained unmoved, fury flashing in her eyes. “It’s because you’re afraid we’ll come after her again, isn’t it?!” She shot me a venomous glance.
I stood stunned, looking at Nathan with wide eyes.
Nathan slipped his arm around my waist, pulling me close. “You’re right. When it comes to her safety, I will never take chances.”
The feeling of being steadfastly protected by Nathan who loves me–that happiness and joy welling up from my core–is as sweet and comforting as flowing honey.
The transition of power in Emerald City happened with surprising smoothness. The capital suffered minimal damage, and Alphas from various territories arrived daily to pledge their loyalty to me.
I was gradually getting used to addressing crowds and mastering diplomatic phrases, though I often found myself exhausted by the end of each day.
Sometimes, I almost missed my days as a breeder, when I didn’t carry the weight of an entire nation on my shoulders.

Chapter 342
At tonight’s formal dinner welcoming visiting Alphas, I noticed Nathan sitting at the other end of the long table, his expression stolc as he endured the social obligations with minimal enthusiasm.
“How can he just sit there without even smiling? But he looks so cute. I muttered under my breath.
“My queen?” A young man beside me leaned closer, his earnest face lighting up at having caught my attention. I wanted to express my pack’s loyalty to you. My mother was held hostage by Dylan, and-”
“Is your mother safe now?” I asked, genuinely concerned.
The young Alpha dropped to one knee, taking my hand and pressing his lips to my knuckles in gratitude. “Yes, thanks to you, Your Majesty.”
“Hey, are you here to eat or what? This is dinner!” Nathan called out.
The young Alpha frowned. “What’s wrong with showing respect to my queen?”
Enzo chimed in, “You can show respect with words!” He turned to me. “Right, Your Majesty?”
Nathan’s expression darkened further, a low growl rumbling in his throat.
I glanced around helplessly, hoping someone might diffuse the situation. Victoria ducked her head with a shrug, Gina was laughing outright, and Adam, Selena, Apollo, and Tyler all pretended nothing was happening.
Please let this dinner end soon. I’m longing to hold Nathan close.
“Rachel.” Caelum’s voice slipped into my mind through our mind link, urgency coloring his tone.
I immediately excused myself from the table and Nathan followed.
“Is it about Carter?” I asked anxiously once we were in the corridor.
“It’s… complicated,” Caelum replied, his mental voice uncharacteristically serious. “Meet me in the throne room.”
I turned to Nathan. “Nathan, I need to meet Caelum in the throne room…”
“I’ll come with you,” he said firmly.
When we arrived, Caelum was already waiting, a box roughly three feet long resting beside him on the floor.
He handed me a sealed envelope with “Queen Rachel‘ written across the front.
My fingers trembled as I broke the seal and unfolded the message inside. As I read, my lips began to quiver.
“It’s an invitation,” I told Nathan, my voice barely steady. “I’ve been invited to… it’s from David.”
The letter invited me to Vortex island, requesting/1 come alone to speak with him–though I could bring a small security detail, he specifically stated that neither Nathan nor Tyler should accompany me.
If I refused, the offer would be withdrawn. He mentioned sending a gift as a gesture of good faith.
Both Nathan and I stared at the box on the floor.
Nathan motioned for Caelum to stay close to me, then stepped forward and carefully opened the lid, peering inside before quickly closing it again.
His expression was indescribable. When I asked what was inside, he moved to block me from approaching, covering my eyes with his hand.

“Don’t look,” he ordered softly,
“What is it? You’re scaring me…” I pressed.
“It’s an arm, he replied flatly.
My heart lurched, thoughts immediately racing to Carter. “Nathan… Carter…”
He shook his head. “No, it’s not Carter’s.”
I let out a breath of relief.
“It appears to be Dylan’s,” he added.
