Chapter 349
Rachel’s POV
After slipping into my clothes, I glanced at the clock and realized two hours had slipped by. Time had a way of vanishing when I was with Nathan, as if the world slowed just for us.
I shot him a mock glare, hands on my hips. “Do you see what time it is?‘ I said, my tone half scolding, half–teasing.
Nathan grinned, that infuriatingly charming grin that always disarmed me. “Proof I’m pretty impressive, huh?” he said, winking.
My cheeks flushed instantly, and I swatted his arm, trying to hide my embarrassment. “You’re impossible,” I huffed, rolling my eyes. Always joking around.”
His grin faded, replaced by a sudden, intense look that caught me off guard. Nathan stepped closer, his eyes locking onto mine with a vulnerability I rarely saw.
“Rachel, I’m serious,” he said softly. “It feels like forever since I last saw you. I know it hasn’t been that long, but… my heart’s been heavy. I try not to show it, but the moment I saw you, I just… I broke. I missed you so much.”
His words hit me like a wave, raw and unguarded. I looked into his eyes, seeing the depth of his longing mirrored in my own. I missed you too, Nathan,” I whispered, my voice thick with emotion. “Every second, every moment, I was thinking of you.”
He pulled me into his arms, his embrace warm and steady. “I love you,” he murmured into my hair.
I nodded against his chest, my heart full. “I love you too.”
A beat passed, and I pulled back slightly, a small smile tugging at my lips. “Carter,” I said, the name a gentle reminder of why we were here.
Nathan’s expression shifted to a sheepish grin. “Right, let’s go see that kid,” he said, scratching the back of his neck. “Time to pay him a visit.
As we walked down the hallway, Nathan’s hand found mine, his fingers lacing through mine with a quiet confidence. I glanced at him, warmth blooming in my chest, and a soft smile spread across my face.
After a few knocks, the door slowly opened, revealing Carter’s slightly annoyed yet still sickly pale face. “You finally decided to show up,” he said with his arms crossed, his tone tinged with complaint. “I was about to drag my injured self to your doorstep if you didn’t come soon -I mean, I’m practically healed already. Not completely better, but at least I can talk properly now.”
I winced, feeling guilt creep in. “Sorry, we got… caught up with some things. You should sit down,” I said, my cheeks flushing again.
Carter raised an eyebrow, his tone full of mock indignation. “What, something more important than me?” Then Nathan helped Carter sit down on the bed.
Nathan snorted. “Obviously more important than you,” he said, his voice laced with playful arrogance.
Carter smirked, not backing down at all. “Oh sure, I’m totally unimportant. Don’t forget, bro, you still owe me your life,” he said, his tone teasing but pointed. “Hmph.”
Nathan’s bravado faltered, and he rubbed the back of his neck again, looking genuinely contrite. “Yeah, okay, I… I’m sorry, man.”
Carter waved him off, his grin returning. ‘Relax, I’m just messing with you.”
I looked at Carter, relieved to see him in high spirits. “You’re looking pretty lively,” I said, smiling. “Seems like you’re doing alright.”
He puffed out his chest, a mischievous/glint in his eyes. “That’s right. Your blood worked wonders, Rachel. Top–notch stuff.*

Chapter 349
Nathan’s expression darkened slightly, and he leaned forward, his voice low. You want me to take care of David for you? Get some revenge?
Carter shook his head, his tone surprisingly calm. Nah, let it go. He screwed me over, sure, but he also cleared a lot of obstacles for us. I’m the one who tried to play him first.”
I nodded, piecing together the tangled web of betrayals and alliances. “He’s not exactly a saint,” I said, “but David did take out Raymond, which was no small feat. Dylan’s down an arm, Jason’s out of the picture, and half the packs out there are siding with us now. David’s done us a lot of favors, even if he didn’t mean to. I paused, frowning. “I never would’ve guessed he’d betray Raymond, though. He was his beta.”
Carter shrugged. ‘David’s not as simple as he seems. He’s been holding a grudge against Raymond for a long time.”
I tilted my head, curious. “Why?”
Nathan answered, his voice steady. “It’s about the vortex. David wanted it, but Raymond gave it to Carter instead.”
Carter nodded, his expression grim. “Exactly. That’s when David started hating him. Raymond thought he could pull me into his schemes to take down Nathan, but he miscalculated. Badly.”
I blinked, the pieces falling into place. “So that’s what it was all about,” I said, almost to myself. “I never realized…”
Nathan’s chest puffed out slightly, a proud smile playing on his lips. “Doesn’t matter now. Everyone’s talking about how the Queen of Nexus and Ironjaw Pack’s Alpha Nathan are unstoppable together. The other packs are starting to get nervous, and the world’s settling down. Peace is coming, whether they like it or not.”
Carter groaned, rolling his eyes. “Ugh, enough with the lovey–dovey crap. Get out of here, I need my beauty sleep. Close the door, please.”
Nathan said, “You little punk.”
I said, “Come on, let’s go, Nathan. He needs to rest. He’s still weak.”
Then I gently closed the door as I led Nathan away.
With that, he shut the door in our faces. Nathan and I exchanged a glance, and then we both burst out laughing, the sound echoing down the hallway.
“Funny,” I said, shaking my head.
Nathan chuckled, his eyes glinting with mischief. “Total child. Can’t handle the fact that we’re the perfect match.”
I swatted him again, grinning. “You’re both ridiculous.”
He stepped closer, his voice dropping to a soft, intimate tone. He leaned down, his lips brushing mine in a gentle kiss. “I want to stay ridiculous forever,” he murmured. “I love you, Rachel.”
My eyes stung with unshed tears as I looked up at him, my heart swelling. I didn’t trust my voice, so I mouthed the words instead, my lips forming a silent, “I love you too.”
For a moment, we stood there, wrapped in each other, the weight of the world falling away. The battles, the betrayals, the vortex–it all faded in the warmth of his gaze. We’d faced so much, lost so much, but we’d found each other.
And that was enough.
As we turned to leave, Nathan’s hand found mine again, and I smiled, knowing that whatever came next, we’d face it together.
