BOOK 3 – Chapter 1

My husband and I were just about to drift off to sleep when suddenly, the bedroom door swung open with a loud bang.

A woman stormed into the room, her face twisted with raw jealousy and anger. Without a word of warning, she hurled a thick stack of papers directly at me, then turned sharply to my husband and shouted, “If you lay a hand on her, I don’t want you anymore!”

Her eyes locked onto me with fierce hatred as she spat out, “I don’t care about your title or this so-called marriage, but if you even think about stealing my man, I swear I’ll slap you so hard you’ll never show your face again!”

I stood frozen, stunned by the sudden invasion and her venomous words. Javier Gayle, my husband, quickly stepped forward, trying to calm the situation. “I didn’t touch her,” he said coolly. “You know our marriage was arranged. It’s not real.”

A cold wave of shock washed over me. My heart hammered painfully in my chest. For years, our marriage had seemed perfect. Three years ago, when my mother-in-law fell gravely ill, I stayed abroad to care for her day and night, sacrificing everything to be by her side.

Yet now, Javier dismissed our marriage as if it were nothing more than a sham, as though I were some insignificant joke.

The woman, Milena Sanders, held her chin high and sneered arrogantly. “This is my plan for you,” she declared, thrusting the papers toward me. “Read it carefully.”

She continued with cold authority, “From now on, you’re not allowed to see my man without my permission. If you must, you’ll have to ask me first.”

I glanced at Javier, searching for even a flicker of remorse or shame, but found none. His expression was icy and detached as he said, “Milena loves me too much. She’s used to getting what she wants. Just listen to her from now on.”

I clenched my fists tightly, forcing a bitter smile to mask the storm raging inside me. Fine, Javier. If this marriage isn’t real to you, then I won’t pretend anymore. Let’s see how you handle that.

He wrapped his arms possessively around Milena’s waist, brushing his nose gently against hers. “Alright, don’t be mad. It won’t happen again, okay?” he whispered.

Milena leaned into him, her eyes flicking toward me with a proud, mocking smile.

Their footsteps echoed down the hallway as they left. I gripped the blanket with trembling hands, feeling like a fragile bird caught in the middle of a violent storm, helpless and alone.

After staring blankly at the ceiling for what felt like hours, I finally opened my laptop and began drafting a divorce agreement. Before marriage, I had been a respected lawyer. I had left my career behind when I married Javier, never imagining my first case back would be my own divorce.

And I never thought the man I trusted most would betray me for someone so unreasonable.

On my mother-in-law’s birthday, Javier returned home. During dinner, he took my hand under the table and assured the guests, “The Lorraine Family’s situation won’t affect Saina’s position in the Gayle Family.”

So, they already knew.

Everyone at the table maintained polite smiles, but I could sense the hidden glances and faint undercurrents of sympathy. My mother-in-law even declared loudly in front of everyone, “I don’t care who the biological or adopted daughter of the Lorraine Family is. One thing is certain—Saina is my daughter-in-law, and she always will be.”

I offered only a faint smile in return, saying nothing.

They believed I was just a mistaken Lorraine daughter. The real daughter had returned, but none of them knew my true parents were far wealthier and more powerful than the Lorraines.

But at this point, it didn’t matter anymore. I had stopped caring.

That night, just as Javier was about to leave, my mother-in-law insisted he stay in my room.

He didn’t resist. Without hesitation, he pushed me down onto the bed and kissed my neck roughly, his breath hot and urgent against my skin.

I tried to push him away, but he whispered urgently, “Please, don’t tell Milena. She’s jealous. If she finds out, she’ll cause trouble.”

A crushing wave of humiliation and betrayal swept over me. I struggled harder, but it was no use.

His aggression grew, just like before, leaving me so sore and bruised that I could barely move the next day. Just thinking about it made my stomach churn with disgust.

I braced myself to fight back once more, determined not to let him have his way again, when suddenly the door burst open.

Milena had caught us red-handed—again.

Javier jumped up in panic, his face flushed strangely with desire, his body trembling uncontrollably.

And then it hit me—he must have taken something without even realizing it…
