Chapter 60
The room held its breath–Director Higgins, Beatrice, and even the guards went still
“The surveillance footage,” I said.N
Augustus let out a sharp, incredulous laugh.
“Do it,” he ordered his men.
“Mr. Cordova!”
He turned his head. “The surveillance has been wiped clean. My own technicians tried to restore it and failed. Stop playing games.”
“What?” I twisted around.\
Beatrice’s shoulders relaxed; the corner of her lips tugged in quiet relief–exactly what she’d expected.
Director Higgins even chuckled under his breath, looking at me as though I were a naive fool.
Of course. A seasoned veteran like him would never leave the footage untouched, not when it could hand Augustus an excuse to raze the entire hospital.
But I smiled. “It’s true the footage here was destroyed. But I made backups.”
“What?!” Beatrice and Director Higgins blurted it out together.
Ever since my rebirth, I had been collecting evidence of Beatrice’s recklessness.
I knew that colleagues‘ testimonies could be twisted or retracted. But surveillance footage never lied.
In the projection room, Director Higgins’s voice shook with a plea. “Mr. Cordova, this footage must be fake! Dr. Ingram would never treat a patient’s life as a toy!“}
Beatrice’s face had already turned chalk–white; she couldn’t speak at all.”
Darwin seized my left hand, his tone frantic,” Darling, I know you’re scared of Mr. Cordova’s punishment, but don’t drag everyone down with you! This won’t clear your name–this will only push Mr. Cordova into doing something unforgivable!“}
Clatter!
A glass smashed to the floor.
Augustus‘ eyes were so bloodshot they looked as if they might bleed. “Does your hospital take me for a fool?”
Beside him, his technicians had aiready confirmed the surveillance footage was authentic.
Bang!
Director Higgins’s knees buckled, and he collapsed to the floor.”
“Mr. Cordova! Beatrice was framed!” Darwin rushed to speak up.
Beatrice’s tears streamed down her face, her body trembling as she dared to look at Augustus.
But Augustus‘ gaze had already fallen on my ruined right hand. His eyes turned scarlet.
“Tell Eric to return to the country immediately. If he can’t restore Dr. Humphrey’s hand, he can get the hell out of the Cordova Corporation!“Z
I never learned what Augustus did to the director and his cronies. What I did know was that he personally oversaw my care. He understood that the only person who could truly save his sister was me.”
Every day, he came to check on the progress of my recovery.”
Fortunately, the Eric he brought back was a titan in the world of orthopedics.
And that invincible, arrogant Augustus… actually forced himself to his knees in front of me.N
“Carmella is still clinging to life, but to wake her… I know only you can do it.”
“She is my life. Dr. Humphrey, if you save her, I’ll give you my life in return!”
I quickly caught his arms before his forehead struck the ground. “As a doctor, saving lives is my duty. If I can save her, I will.“N When the day finally came that my right hand recovered, I once again picked up the scalpel.N
Under my knife, Carmella’s vital signs gradually stabilized.
Arid when the anesthesia wore off, her eyelids fluttered, and she opened her eyes.
*Carmella!%
That day, news of Augustus‘ tears of joy spread throughout the entire Cordova Corporation.N
Overnight, I became the company’s greatest benefactor.”
Thirty percent of the shares were offered to me without hesitation. Convoys of luxury goods filled the streets outside my home &
I refused them all. “Mr. Cordova found someone to restore my hand. I saved his sister. Now we’re even “N

His eyes
reddened as he looked at me. “As for Darwin and the others–I won’t let them off.”
I nodded. “Do as you please. It no longer concerns me.”
When I left the Cordova Corporation, Augustus personally escorted me out. Some business partners even mistook me for a powerful figure in the corporate world.
On the other hand, the hospital was purged and reorganized. The working environment had become far more bearable.”
For a time, my days passed in rare peace.
Until one evening, after work, I stepped into the underground garage. Just as I reached for my car door, a sharp pain tore through my chest.
I lowered my head.
The blood–stained tip of a knife was protruding from my body. Blood trickled down in warm streams, pattering onto the concrete floor.”
“M–Mr. Cordova…”
Clutching my chest, I leaned against the car, staring at the man behind me, his eyes blazing red.”
“I… I don’t understand. Why?”
As darkness swallowed me, I heard his icy voice.”
“Dr. Humphrey, what a grand game of chess you’ve been playing.”
When I woke again, I learned Augustus had launched a ruthless investigation. Everyone connected to the incident was arrested and brutally interrogated.
And Darwin… had “confessed.”
I was dragged into a basement, and I saw Darwin was hung in shackles, bloodied and barely recognizable,
Augustus‘ voice was cold as steel. “You claim to love your childhood sweetheart Beatrice. Then tell me why did deliberately push her into performing that one–handed delivery and let it end in disaster?” “What…”

I froze, staring at Darwin in disbelief.”
His voice was weak, but his words cut deeper than any blade. “If I didn’t, how else would Mr. Cordova have stepped in personally? How else could we ever get close to the Cordova family?”
“Darwin, what are you saying?!” I shrieked.\
