Footsteps Toward New Beginnings By Ryan Carter 14 Summary

 

In this chapter, Dustin coldly informs Kenneth that Christy will no longer see him and that their families are officially separated by a divorce agreement, which Christy had already signed half a month ago. Kenneth is shocked and devastated upon seeing the contract, unable to believe that Christy would leave him after all their years of marriage. The painful realization hits him hard, especially as he recalls moments when he had hurt her deeply, causing her to give up on their love.

 

Desperate, Kenneth breaks into the Martell mansion searching for Christy, but she is nowhere to be found. Despite his pleas to his parents for a chance to apologize and see her one last time, they reject him harshly. Benjamin, in particular, lashes out at Kenneth, accusing him of cruelty towards Christy, highlighting her lifelong frailty and the harm Kenneth caused her. Kenneth is overwhelmed by guilt and sorrow but is left unable to defend himself.

 

Ultimately, Dustin delivers a strict warning forbidding Kenneth from ever approaching the Martell mansion again. Kenneth is forcibly removed from the property, broken and anguished, crying out for Christy’s whereabouts. Meanwhile, Benjamin and Nyasia watch the events unfold, with Nyasia reassuring that Christy will not be sent back to Kenneth, despite Benjamin’s concerns about her future.

Chapter 14 

Dustin spoke with a mocking tone. “You should leave. Christy won’t see you, and we won’t let you see her again. Now the Gilford family is more prosperous than the Martell family, and the Martell family is no longer worthy! That divorce agreement has already taken effect. From now on, our two families will go their separate ways, with no further ties!” 

Kenneth was stunned. “What divorce agreement? Dad, what are you talking about?” 

Seeing Kenneth’s expression, Dustin realized he wasn’t pretending to be ignorant, he had probably long forgotten about the agreement signed before the marriage. 

Unhurriedly, he instructed the butler to bring out a backup copy of the contract and tossed it in front of Kenneth. 

“Half a month ago, Christy already signed it. You have no chance to regret it now. I have no interest in the Gilford family’s shares, nor do I need them! Now take this document and disappear from my sight!” 

Kenneth opened the document in disbelief. The black–and–white divorce agreement brought back memories of the past. 

All these years of marriage, he had never imagined that one day Christina would leave him! 

“No! This can’t be written by Christy! Absolutely impossible!” 

Kenneth clutched the protection charm in his hand, but his gaze was fixed on the agreement. He felt as if he had fallen into an icy abyss, his heart aching even more than when he learned Alice’s 

true nature! 

Half a month ago… 

It was when he brought Alice back to the Gilford’s mansion. 

It was when she knelt and bowed step by step to pray for a protection charm for him. 

It turned out that the secrets and lies he thought were flawless had already been seen through by her. 

It turned out she had already signed the divorce agreement.

He screamed as he broke through the obstacles and rushed into the villa. Benjamin tried to stop him but was held back by their parents. 

“Let him go in. If he can’t find her, he’ll give up on his own.” 

Kenneth searched every corner of the Martell’s mansion, even the basement storage room, but there was no sign of Christina anywhere in sight. 

Seeing Dustin and Nyasia sitting in the living room watching the scene unfold, Kenneth lost all his former pride and fell to his knees with a thud. 

“Mom, Dad! I really know I was wrong. Please, tell me where Christy is, just give me a chance to apologize! I’ll do anything you ask! I just want to see her one more time!” 

The blood and tears on Kenneth’s face mixed together as he pleaded incoherently with the two of them. 

Benjamin, who had been holding back, finally reached his breaking point in anger. 

He turned around, grabbed a vase, and smashed it hard on Kenneth’s head, the veins on his forehead bulging 

“Compensation? Kenneth, you beast. If it weren’t illegal to kill, I would have cut your flesh off piece by piece to feed the dogs! Do you know she’s been weak since childhood, even anemic to begin with! When my sister was at her weakest, you drew 27 ounces of blood from her! You almost killed her! And now you talk about compensation, don’t you find yourself disgusting!” 

With every word Benjamin spoke, Kenneth’s heart trembled violently, as if a thousand–pound hammer was pounding on his chest, making it hard to breathe from the pain. 

He opened his mouth, but all his explanations were stuck in his throat in that instant, unable to utter a single word. 

Nyasia turned her head away, unable to bear watching any longer. 

Dustin stepped forward and delivered the final ultimatum. “Kenneth, from now on, do not set foot near the Martell’s mansion ever again!” 

Kenneth seemed to have lost his soul, allowing the Martell family’s bodyguards to drag him out and throw him outside the villa. 

Staring at the tightly closed villa gates, he covered his face in agony and let out a heart–wrenching 

cry.
