Kenneth returned to San Francisco in a daze, feeling utterly lost and hollow after losing Christina. Standing alone by the river, he was overwhelmed by memories of her and desperate to find her. Despite the secretary’s report that Christina’s whereabouts had been completely erased, Kenneth demanded that every resource of the Gilford family be used to locate her. A photo of Christina smiling with cake on her face reminded him of happier times, deepening his sorrow and regret.

 

As Kenneth stood lost in his grief, a speeding sports car suddenly barreled toward him. He barely registered the danger before the violent collision, which left him severely injured and slipping into unconsciousness. Despite his lifelong fear of death, Kenneth felt a strange mixture of fear and acceptance, questioning if he could finally understand the pain Christina had endured. Before losing consciousness, he wondered if she would come to see him one last time.

 

Kenneth awoke days later in an empty hospital room, tears flowing as he recalled how Christina had cared for him devotedly during a previous accident. Now, with multiple fractures and a long coma behind him, he was left alone and desperate for news of her. When the secretary informed him that the Martell family had not responded and Christina had not been found, Kenneth bitterly accepted that she might never forgive him.

Kenneth was in a daze, not even knowing how he made his way back to San Francisco.

Hearing his phone ring, he immediately picked it up. 

“Did you find Christina?” 

The secretary was silent for a few seconds. “Mrs. Gilford’s whereabouts have been completely erased. It will take even more time and effort to find her.” 

“Find her! Even if it takes all the Gilford family’s money and manpower, you must find her!” 

After the call ended, the screen showed a picture of Christina eating cake, cream smeared at the corner of her mouth. That had been their happiest time… 

Tears slid down silently.
