“This is outrageous,” Erevan muttered as he stumbled along the hallway, Draven rushing behind him. “I have never heard of the emperor being summoned by anyone, not even his father.”
“That girl… I think we can use her.” Draven answered instead, and Erevan stopped abruptly.
“This is even more outrageous than hearing the human summons the emperor to her chambers.” His eyes. were widened in disbelief. “Have you lost your mind?”
“Think about it, Erevan.” Draven insisted on sharing his insane idea with his companion, even though Erevan thought he was crazy and going out of hand. “The emperor is usually violent and unpredictable. And even when we thought he was going to kill the girl for being disrespectful, he didn’t.”
“And what does that have to do with anything?” Erevan remained clueless. “He didn’t kill the girl because he wanted her to be in his harem.”
“Harem? Erevan, can’t you see, there was never a harem? If indeed he wanted her to be in the harem, then why did he put her in the queen’s chambers of the palace? There are a lot of rooms. Why is she there?” He asked curiously, and Erevan went into deep thought, but no matter how hard he thought about it, he just didn’t see anything wrong with what the emperor had done.
“Okay,” He muttered a little calmer. “What are you implying? That the emperor like the girl?”
“Yes.” Draven nodded hurriedly. “That can only be the explanation for this, the emperor likes this girl.”
There was a small silence that stretched between them, and then Draven burst into mocking laughter.
“You always say the weirdest thing, but this was the funniest by far.” Erevan trailed off as he stopped laughing. “The emperor’s heart is as black as his hair; it is made from stone, and there is no way in Krair, he would be in love with a human girl.”
Krair is also known as the dragon’s hell. Erevan pushed the thoughts aside as he proceeded towards the direction of the courtroom, and Draven followed him with a lot of things on his mind.
“And why not?” He mused, waiting for an explanation.
“Did
you see how he looked at that girl?” Erevan queried. “The most beautiful girl, even more beautiful than the most beautiful dragon women, yet, the emperor didn’t even spare her a glance-”
“Because he was more interested in this one.” He finished for his friend. “I am telling you, we should try to protect this girl; she could be the key.”
Erevan lowered his head, thinking about it. He didn’t believe that the emperor could be fazed by a useless emotion called love.
So much for a man who killed his father, and bathed in his blood, love is a mere illusion that could never happen. But Draven was a young, hot–blooded dragon. Sometimes, he dreams too much, but since he was willing to gamble on that option, Erevan thought it was also a possibility, and he would also like to take any available chance they could get to break the emperor’s curse.

“I don’t believe what you say is possible, but I am willing to give it a chance because it might work.” Draven’s eyes lit up in amusement, his stubborn partner was agreeing with him. “But before it works, you have to pray we don’t get killed.”
They proceeded to the courtroom, and when they got in, every other person was already present, except for the emperor.
“The young members have been passive with their punctuality, you do know that the emperor hates shabbiness.” Azarok, the direct advisor to the emperor and Erevan’s uncle, said as soon as the door closed behind them. “Do you want to get yourselves killed?”
“Pardon us, Uncle. We were directed by the emperor to oversee the settlement of our new slaves,” Erevan answered, his head lowered slightly, a soft breeze blowing his dark blue hair. Draven just remained silent as he lowered his head as well.
The door to the court suddenly opened, and there was a dark shift in the air, everyone was compelled to seize their breaths as the emperor passed, his boots clicked against the marble floor of the court. His demanding and powerful presence overwhelmed everyone that they felt a certain pressure descend on them, forcing their eyes to remain glued to the ground.
“Your majesty!” They all greeted as they bowed, Azmaveth climbed his throne, and began tapping the claw ring he was wearing on the golden arm of the throne, slowly and deliberately like a threat to them all.
“I heard the council wants to decide the fate of the Green Shade Princess?” He questioned immediately, his voice was deep and cold, like the call of death. Erevan and Draven felt sweat pooled from their pores, since their opinions were different from the entire council.
“Yes, your majesty.” For the first time in so many weeks, Sarkan, the head of the council, was trying to state his opinion. “The princess was brought as a prisoner of war, and now she is being placed in the queen’s chambers.”
“The princess has shown displeasure in being a prisoner of war,” Azmaveth answered with a dark frown hanging on his eyebrows. “She fought with honor, and it’s impressive, a little comfort from her emperor isn’t anything.”
“Your Majesty is so generous, even the heavens can’t containyour grace,” Azarok answered with a smile on his face. “But like Sarkan, I was also displeased that your mercy has been taken for granted, and that is the reason the lowly human woman dares to summon your lordship to her chambers.”
“Yes, she should be executed for such insolence,” Draken answered, another member of the council, his brows furrowed together. “That human spawn has done nothing but disrespect you. We all know you were taken her lightly in that battle, else she would have never broken your magnificent horn.”
“I suggest you should execute her, your majesty,” Erebus added and then Draken gasped lightly, why wasn’t everyone seeing it? No one had ever advised the emperor to kill someone before he did.
“I beg to differ, your majesty!” Draven suddenly announced and a still silence followed in the court room, as everyone head’s reeled in the direction of the voice.
Draven… this was the first time he was contributing to court matters with such confidence.
Erevan shut his eyes tightly, hoping Draven wasn’t being stupid about this. “I think your maiesty should
