“Interesting, so my pretty little cousin has finally gone mad.” He chuckled. “Bringing a filthy mortal into the divine grounds of the palace.”
Cedric burrowed his hands together, keeping his head lowered.
“I knew that bastard was never fit to be the emperor, it should have been me!” He sneered and almost immediately he felt a stinging pain in his back one that reverberated to his front, he clutched his tunic, his knees gave out and he fell to the ground.
Cedric’s eyes widened in confusion, and he leaped forward in urgency to help.
“Sire, you need to rest your divine body, lie down, I beg you.” He urged as he looked around signaling for Drakar’s attendants. “Hurry here, we need to bring him to his bedding. Quick!”
“This is all that bastard’s fault,” Drakar yelled again, but that only prompted him to cough out some blood and more intense pain rippled through him. The last fight he had with his demon of a nephew, he hadn’t expect the hatchling to be so strong, even stronger than a real dragon.
Azmaveth dealt him a mortal blow, and was going to kill him, Cedric had only prepared an escape root for him and the only reason he was alive today was because he fled, and ever since then he hasn’t been able to use his body in the way he could.
The priestess he had summoned had told him that the wound couldn’t not be healed with medication, so they had proposed he consumed at least three gallons of human blood on the night of every full moon, until the hundredth moon. “I swear to Drakor I will make him pay, I will kill that demon and dispose his limbs to all four cardinals of the earth.”
He gritted his teeth, as his attendants brought him more blood to feast on.
“About this human girl…” his mind darted to the conversation he was having with Cedric before his anger got the best of him. “Do you think she might be connected to the reason he hasn’t lost control?”
He wondered as he gulped down on the blood, and he felt the pain in his chest slowly dissipating, his nephew was usually nonchalant about a lot of things. He wasn’t interested in hunting, in sports, wine, or even women but then suddenly there was a strange human woman he brought to his harem, and to top it up. He hasn’t lost control in a week.
“I am not sure my lord, but according to the rumors, Azmaveth seems to dote on this human girl.” He confessed, and Drakar raised an eyebrow, now that was something new, and a wicked grin spread across his face.
“Seems like my beloved little cousin now has a weakness.” He chuckled again, bringing two of his fingers to his head. “Now, we need to find a way to get rid of her.”

“I need to ploy my escape!” Natalia chorused within herself, and she figured the best way to do that is to gain the emperor’s trust. Nothing fruitful will come out of getting herself killed recklessly.

She glanced at Darkorta who was busy arranging the lovely red rose flowers in the pot, they were different from the ones she usually saw in the tribe’s garden. These roses were red, and the petals were almost as big as her face, they were enchanting and beautiful.
Darkorta seemed to be happy arranging them, it was almost as if arranging those flowers is a dream come true for her. “They are fresh picks,” She muttered dropping the vase as she rushed towards the bed, a small blush filling her cheeks. “The emperor picked them himself.”

“The emperor picked those flowers for me?” She queried just to be sure, and Darkorta nodded giving her the affirmation she was asking for. “But why? Doesn’t he have gardeners to do that?”
“Um… I have heard stories since I was a child that the emperor has a personal garden, he doesn’t allow anyone go in, nor does he let anything in it come out. This is the first time he is bringing something out of the garden and he is giving it to you.”
Her eyes were shinning like gold coins as she explain.
“I think the emperor is in love with you, My Lady!”
Instead of being as excited as Darkorta was, Natalia felt insulted instead, the emperor was in love with her, and yet he keeps her in this room while he holds the rest of her family in captivity?
What nonsense love that is…
“How sweet of the emperor…” She muttered, as she had already decided to gain the trust of the emperor. “Can you give him a message for me?”
The smile on Darkorta’s face disappeared, as she was filled with the dread of going to meet with him.
“Y–Yes, My lady.” She answered.
“Tell him, I have received his gift, and I am pleased with it.” She continued hopping from the bed and strolling towards the window were Darkorta had arranged the vases. The flowers had a very strong scent, in a few seconds, the whole room smells as beautiful as them. “I would like to meet him to discuss the answer to the question he asked me, if he pleases.”
Darkorta’s eyes widened, she was shocked to hear this from Natalia, just yesterday, she seemed to be so full of hatred for him, and now she was speaking so kindly and formally?
“Y–Yes, as you wish, your highness!” Darkorta heaved before darting out of the chambers and Natalia smiled, running her finger pads against the soft petals of the flowers.
“They are indeed beautiful.” She picked them up and inhaled their scent. “But even roses have thorns.”
