Natalia sucked in a deep breath as she followed Darkorta along the great halls of the palace, the route they followed was so confusing because everywhere just looked alike, and she bit down on her lips.
She would most likely need a map to understand the interiors of the palace or she would get lost rather than escape. Maybe she could figure out some information from the king using this opportunity.
Darkorta stopped in front of the giant doors that leads to the dinning, a small smile was plastered on her face, she was genuinely happy that Natalia was planning to give the emperor a chance. It was so obvious that the emperor fancied her, she was convinced ever since they got the roses this afternoon.
“Aren’t you coming?” Natalia asked when her maid suddenly stopped, for some reason, she was used to the company of the lady. She was soft spoken and kind, unlike the first person that attended to her when she first got her. “Let’s go.”
Darkorta turned beet red.
“I am honored my lady wants me to accompany her, but the imperial dining hall is private to the crown.” She muttered with a soft smile on her face. “I will be waiting outside for you by the time you are done.”
Natalia’s look fell, she was a little worried, being alone in the dining hall with the emperor, not that the maid could do anything to stop the emperor if he wanted to hurt her. In fact for someone as strong as the emperor, it wouldn’t be a problem for him to harm them both.
“Alright then.” Natalia was quick to recover from her disappointment. The guards standing at the door opened the door allowing her passage. She sucked in a deep breath as she entered into the almost icy cold hall.
It was mostly vacant but had torches burning at every angle in the room, a long wooden table that took almost half of the room, stretched forward, and the emperor was sitting at the head of the table.
Natalia felt her heart tightened in her chest at how menacing he looked, sitting quietly at the table, with a golden goblet in between his fingers. His red eyes seemed uninterested in the food, as he leisurely swirled the wine in the goblet.
“Please come closer, princess.” He urged and only then did Natalia found the courage to wobble forward, with every step she took, she felt courage flowing out of her. “I was surprised when you requested to see me.”
“Greetings your majesty,” She chirped softly, as she curtsied. “I received the gift you brought for me.”
“It’s not a gift,” He suddenly muttered, and Natalia’s eyebrows raised curiosly, wondering what it was if it wasn’t a gift. “It was an apology”
Silence stretched between them as he answered her unasked question. “I had scared you yesterday, even though I had promised to be patient with you. I am sorry.”
Natalia paused for a while, she didn’t understand why the dragon emperor seemed the opposite of the stories she had heard. He was said to be a monster, who could tear open the earth’s core even if he wanted to, someone who bathed in the blood of the people he kills.
A demon.

But the man sitting before her–even though he looks like a demon, he didn’t seem like one. Especially when he talks and acts like this.
“Please seat down,” He motioned towards the chair that was the closest to him, and she swallowed, she was just fine keeping her distance away from him.
“Yes, Your majesty.” She forced out as she wobbled towards the chair the closest to him and sat down, her green eyes darted towards the delicious serving of food which was mostly protein.
“I hope the meal is to your liking?” he wondered out loud and Natalia nodded calmly, is this the reason the dragon people grow to be so big? Because they eat lots of protein? “If there is anything you need, just tell me and I will have them bring it.”
“Thank you, Your majesty.” She answered with a faked smile just to ease the tension surrounding them.
“The maid who brought me your message, claimed that you have something to say to me.” He mutterd raising the goblet to his lips, and he sipped slowly from the wine, while his eyes were locked on hers.
He was trying to understand how a human could be so beautiful, her soft features seemed to fascinate him even more. The dress clung unto every curve on her body, and it woke a desire that he didn’t know he had in him.
What he seemed to be most charmed by, was the way her chest rose and fell softly, and how quietly she drew her breath. If she was doom, then he wouldn’t mind being consumed by her, and he would give anything to make it happen.
“Yes, your majesty.” With fierce determination, she turned back towards him. “I have thought carefully about the proposal, and I agree to it.”
Azmaveth dropped the goblet in his hands, leaning his back against the wooden chair.
“Why did you change your mind so fast?” He queried and she gagged, she had only expected him to be delighted she was agreeing to his proposal. She never expected he would wonder why.
“I thought about it,” She muttered softly, staring at her trembling fingers on her laps. “Being selfish isn’t going to be helpful. Since you have spared me, I should show my gratitude. Perhaps, the love token you had sent me this afternoon helped trigger my acceptance.”
Azmaveth went deep in thoughts, for some reason her story felt difficult to believe, but he simply smiled.
“Thank you for being so thoughtful,” He started in the same serious voice, and Natalia felt her belly flopped. Who would have thought it would be so easy to fool the emperor. “Is there anything else you want?”
“Yes, your majesty” She answered truthfully. “I want to be given access to some parts of the palace, and I want you to allow me to see my family.”
