Chapter 6
Perhaps Gemma was bold enough to snatch my locket because Nathan had her back. He’d believe anything she said without
question.
That was how she kept sowing discord between me and Nathan and throwing dirt on my name over and over again.
Even now, he still trusted her.
It took a long silence before Nathan finally said, “We’ll look into her in secret. Tomorrow night, I’ll meet her as usual so she
won’t get suspicious.”
But Gemma couldn’t even wait until tomorrow.
Right after Nathan spoke, his phone rang with her call. Her voice was filled with worry and fear as it came through the line.
“Nathan, I heard what happened to Rosie… Are you okay?”
Nathan glanced at Lawrence and flatly replied, “Yeah. I’m fine.”
She paused before cautiously saying, “They haven’t caught the killer yet, and I’m scared. Can you come home to keep me
company tonight?”
Lawrence gave him a nod, so he said, “Sure. I’m on my way.”
After he hung up, Lawrence reminded him, “Stay alert and call us if anything happens.”
Nathan nodded.
When he got home, the place was pitch dark.
“Gemma! Gemma!” he called out a few times, but there was no answer.
Immediately, he had his guard up and grabbed an iron bar from the corner.
Just then, a shadow sneaked up behind him, and my heart shot to my throat. It was Jaxton!
I nervously watched as he crept up on Nathan. I hated how I wasn’t alive to protect him.
Just as Jaxton raised the rod to strike, Nathan spun around.
“Die!” Jaxton shouted.
Nathan’s eyes widened at the sight. Before he could react, the blow landed hard, and he collapsed instantly.
“Nathan! Nathan!” I screamed, but there was nothing I could do but watch as they tied and dragged him away.
I had no choice but to follow them to a half–demolished building, where Gemma was already there, waiting. She dumped a
bucket of ice water over Nathan, and he slowly woke up.
Seeing her, his eyes widened in shock, and he asked, “Gemma, did you kill Rosie?”
She let out a cold laugh. “Took you long enough, but it’s too late now, because you’ll be joining her soon.”
“Why? I treated you so well, and I was even ready to cut ties with my own sister for you. Why did you kill her?” His eyes were bloodshot and wide with killing intent.
Jaxton punched him in the face and jeered. “My sister will destroy you, and you won’t see it coming, idiot.”
“Jaxton, let me explain it to him,” Gemma said.

After he stepped aside, Gemma moved closer and smiled. “You still haven’t figured out who we are, have you?”
Nathan stared at her, confused “What are you talking about? Have we met before?”
She scoffed in disdain. “Wow, you’re dumber than your sister
“But fine. Since you treated me well all these years, I’ll make it quick for you, unlike what we did to her ”
Jaxton stepped forward with a knife in hand and a wild grin on his face. “Do you want to know how she died?” he sneered.
“Right here. I chopped off her limbs one by one, while my guys circled her. I’ve got to say she’s a tough one and held out
longer than I thought
“Oh, and we gave her a chance to beg for help. She desperately tried to, but your response was so cruel Man, even I felt bad
after hearing it
“In the end, she just laid there without fighting back, with vacant, blank eyes. I felt too bad for her, so I gave her a clean death *
Nathan clenched his fists. His eyes burned with rage as he fought to get up on his feet. “Shut up! You’re monsters! I’ll kill you!
But Jaxton just laughed in disdain. “Is that all it takes to break you? Your sister was way tougher. We tortured her for two days, and she never spilled a word about you, but it’s not like we needed her to.
“Thanks for taking care of my sister, by the way. Now, it’s time for you to join your family.”
He raised the knife high, ready to stab Nathan
“Don’t move! Drop your weapon!” Lawrence charged in with backup.
Jaxton scoffed and kept going, as if he didn’t take them seriously.
When Lawrence kicked the knife out of his hand, he grabbed Nathan and pressed another knife to the latter’s neck. “Back off,
or I’ll kill him!”
Nathan agitatedly grabbed the knife with both hands. “Don’t worry about me! Kill him and avenge Rosie!”
That was when Gemma suddenly picked up the knife that was knocked away and swung it at Lawrence. Then, Jaxton shoved
Nathan aside and bolted with her.
Nathan stumbled toward Lawrence. “Forget about me. Go after them!”
The team took off in pursuit, while Nathan freed himself with help from one of the detectives before running after them.
But they hadn’t gone far when gunshots rang out in the distance.
Nathan caught the injured Lawrence as he fell, shouting, “Lawrence!”
