Chapter 22
Alaric did not ask much about Marlene going out alone with Kenyon.
But Marlene, who was always good at reading people, still noticed the emotions in Alaric’s heart. “Are you angry?”
“No.”
“If you’re angry, just say it. Next time, I’ll be sure to let you know in
advance.”
“There will be a next time?!” Alaric suddenly stepped on the gas, turning back to glare at Marlene in anger, only to see the teasing smile at the corner of her lips.
“Just kidding.” Marlene laughed, her gaze fixed ahead.
When she got out of the car, she habitually patted her pocket and felt something hard–a card.
Marlene took it out and saw that it was the card she had just given to Kenyon, which he had not accepted.
As for when he had slipped the card into her pocket, Marlene had no idea, but it no longer mattered.
Three days later, Kenyon held a press conference and gave a detailed response regarding his broken engagement.
Kenyon handled the matter with dignity, taking all the blame upon
himself.
But the reporters still keenly sensed the scent of gossip.

Chapter 22
“Mr. Burt, at the wedding banquet you got into a fight with a stranger. Was it because of the woman in the video? Someone has revealed that she
s your former secretary. Is there a romantic relationship between you?”
“Mr. Burt, did you suddenly announce the breakup because of your former secretary? Was your ambiguous relationship with her during your engagement considered cheating?”
***
One sharp question after another.
Kenyon picked up the microphone, looking straight ahead. “My former secretary is an outstanding woman. There was nothing between us but a normal superior–subordinate relationship. I also hope the media will not focus on her in the future and disturb her normal life.”
“As for the breakup, it was my personal decision. The fault is mine and has nothing to do with anyone else.”
Under the flashing spotlights in front of the cameras, Kenyon gave a deep
bow.
Marlene came across the video while browsing trending topics. After hesitating for a moment, she decided not to click on it and quickly scrolled past.
She cut ties with the past openly and decisively. What happened before, and what happened to those people, no longer mattered.
What she needed to do was look forward, to stride boldly into the future.
At that moment, the door was knocked, and Alaric’s voice came through.
“Hurry up and open the door, I’m dying here!”
Marlene tossed aside her phone and quickly ran toward the door.
