Chapter 2

“I’m so sorry if the misunderstanding upsets you.”
After saying this, Jasmine even bowed deeply to me.
Her innocent, pitiful act was flawless. Had I not witnessed her tactics in seducing Kenneth firsthand, I might have been completely fooled.
Half a month ago, she posted a video on social media.
It showed Kenneth paying with his card at a dealership, standing next to a
Porsche.
Her caption read, “The more a man loves you, the more he’s willing to spend on you.”
At that time, I was at home, burning with a high fever, barely conscious.
called Kenneth, wanting him to take me to the hospital.
For a second, he sounded panicked. Then his voice turned low and hoarse, as though he were holding something back.
“Sandy, I’ll tell the maid to take you. Something urgent came up, and I can’t leave right now.
An hour later, my high fever had developed into pneumonia. I was rushed to the emergency room.
Meanwhile, Jasmine posted another picture–this time of herself lying in the new Porsche beside a shirtless Kenneth. Fresh, suggestive red marks stood out starkly against his toned abdomen.

Her caption went. “Now, both you and my new car are branded by me forever.”
When Kenneth rushed into the ward, his shirt was still misbuttoned.
He threw himself toward the bedside, his eyes red and strained.
At the time, I foolishly believed it was out of concern for me–only now did I understand it was the guilt of a traitor.
All of a sudden, my stomach churned. Kenneth had actually cheated on me with such a cheap angelic bitch?
No longer bothering to watch her pathetic performance, I turned to leave.
Just as I settled into the car, Kenneth called me.
I answered, and his panicked voice rushed through the speaker.
“Sandy, what brought you to the office today?”
“Why?”
I started the engine, keeping my tone casual.
“I had some contract matters to handle. Is there something you don’t want me to see?”
He was obviously caught off guard by my question.
His breath caught. After a few seconds of silence, his voice softened into that familiar, coaxing tone he always used to placate me.
“What are you talking about?
“Of course, I’m not hiding anything from you. It’s just… The office is a complete mess right now. Next time, give me a heads–up before you come,

“You know I’d never cheat on you. If you don’t believe me, you can look into it anytime you want.”
I couldn’t help but be somewhat puzzled.
Jasmine hadn’t told him that I already knew everything?
Scrolling through the evidence, I listened to him lie.
The files totaled three gigabytes–all of it about Kenneth.
Last Valentine’s Day, he told me he was traveling abroad and couldn’t take my calls. In reality, he was watching the aurora with Jasmine in the Arctic.
When my father was critically ill, I called him over thirty times–not a single one answered. He was busy celebrating Jasmine’s birthday.
“I believe you. But what’s the story with that watch?”
Hearing me mention the watch, Kenneth seemed to relax slightly.
He moved his lips closer to the speaker, his tone carrying an affected intimacy.
“I passed out at the office, and Jasmine happened to stop by. She took me to the hospital.”
