Chapter 13
“What?”
youthors.
“He’s the handsome communications expert I told you about. Did you see what he looks like?”
Josephine shook her head. “He said his face was burned and he didn’t want to scare anyone.”
Kathryn’s eyes widened in surprise at this, then she sighed in disappointment.
“I thought he wore the mask to be mysterious, but it turns out he’s just ugly!”
“Kath, don’t say that,” Josephine quickly stopped her. “He might have been injured in the war. We should respect him.”
Kathryn stuck out her tongue and said nothing more.
Three days later, the fighting temporarily ceased.
The rescue team did not rush to the next war zone, but stayed here to provide follow–up treatment for the wounded.
Josephine finally began to notice the ‘communications expert‘ who had been silently following her all this time.
The man had saved her life on the battlefield, so out of gratitude, she took special care of him.
But as time went on, she felt more and more uneasy.
The man’s mannerisms and the sound of his voice were strikingly similar to someone she knew.
Josephine thought she must be losing her mind.
Nathaniel was already engaged to Dorothy. How could he possibly come

to a war–torn place like this?
Besides, there was no way he could have found her…

Not far away, Nathaniel watched Josephine’s figure, his fingers slowly tightening
He had crossed mountains and rivers to find this place, and the moment he saw Josephine, his heart was filled with overwhelming joy.
But he held himself back from approaching her, choosing instead to wear a mask and interact with her in another way, simply because he was afraid his presence would bring back painful memories for Josephine.
But now, she had started avoiding him again.
Had she discovered something?
Nathaniel’s feelings were complicated, but reality gave him no time to dwell on them.
That night, the communications base was attacked again.
With his false identity, Nathaniel was not required to join the emergency repairs, but to everyone’s shock, he volunteered, leaving his handler in a cold sweat.
“Mr. Gordon, the front line is extremely dangerous. You’re only here to put on a show–there’s no need to make it so real!”
Nathaniel shot him a cold glance. “Who said I’m just putting on a show?”
He had come to find Josephine with the intention of atoning for his sins.
Even if he died on the front line, it would be his fate–his punishment to bear.
In the end, the handler failed to stop Nathaniel.
