Chapter 15
Nathaniel imprisoned Josephine.
In the vast villa, cold iron chains tightly wrapped around Josephine’s wrists and ankles. Every slight struggle produced a crisp, metallic sound.
It was only at this moment that she realized Nathaniel was far more terrifying than he appeared.
He had traveled thousands of miles to the war zone to find her, not out of love, but to satisfy his ridiculous possessiveness.
“Nathaniel, what am I to you?”
On her thirty–eighth failed attempt to escape, Josephine asked Nathaniel this question.
Nathaniel obsessively caressed her face, the greed in his eyes burning like a raging fire.
“You are the person I love most,” he replied.
Suddenly, Josephine laughed.
As she laughed, tears streamed down her face.
During her captivity, Nathaniel had the kitchen prepare delicious meals in endless variety every day, and luxury goods worth millions of dollars were piled up in front of her one after another.
Even the servants advised her to accept being Mrs. Gordon and not to resist such a life of wealth and ease.
But the more Nathaniel gave her, the emptier she felt inside.

The chains on her body were a constant reminder that she was not a person, but a plaything.

Gradually, her depression began to relapse. Her body wasted away at an alarming rate, and she became barely alive.
When Nathaniel returned from his business trip and saw Josephine’s condition, he was shocked.
He hurriedly ordered her chains to be removed, but she no longer had the strength to run. She simply leaned weakly against him, her breathing barely perceptible.
“How have you been taking care of Josephine!” Nathaniel’s veins bulged on his forehead as he glared angrily at the servants. “Call the doctor, right now! Immediately!”
The doctor arrived quickly and gave Josephine a full examination.
Then, he called Nathaniel aside and spoke in a grave tone: “Ms.
Josephine’s condition is due to psychological issues. You cannot keep her confined like this any longer, or else…”
“Or else what?” Nathaniel stared at the doctor, his sinister gaze chilling.
The doctor had long heard of Nathaniel’s violent reputation.
After much deliberation, he swallowed his words.
As he was leaving, he heard Josephine call out to him in a frail voice.
She said, Please, take me away.
The doctor felt compassion in his heart, but in the end, he steeled himself and walked away.
Watching the doctor’s departing figure, Josephine closed her eyes in despair.

In the days that followed. Nathaniel brought in a psychologist to hypnotize her, trying to erase her memories.
Just when Josephine thought she would never escape for the rest of her life, something unexpected happened.
Suddenly, a fire broke out in the villa. The servants frantically released her restraints and led her outside.
At that moment, a familiar figure rushed up to her.
“Josie, come with me!”
Kathryn carried her on her back, stumbling out of the villa and into a car parked by the roadside.
When Josephine saw the person in the car, she was stunned,
It was someone she thought she would never see again in her life.
The last family she had left in this world.
