That day, he took Dorothy to the hospital, and before leaving, he told a few of his men to intimidate Josephine, to put her in her place.
He thought they would just make her drink some chili water, but he never expected them to be so ruthless, torturing her almost to death!
Dorothy was terrified by this sudden turn of events.
Her face pale as a sheet, she rushed to the control panel, frantically pressing buttons, nearly collapsing as she screamed, “Turn it off, turn it off now!”
Unexpectedly, she accidentally hit the volume button, making the sound even louder. Josephine’s cries for mercy and the bullies‘ vulgar insults merged into a deafening wave, instantly overturning the entire venue.
The engagement banquet was forced to stop.
Nathaniel dismissed all the guests, leaving only Dorothy and the few who had assaulted Josephine.
Dorothy was still shaken, and when Nathaniel’s gaze swept over her, she shivered violently, her eyes red as she said,
“I didn’t mean to frame Josephine. I just heard you always protected her at school, and I was afraid you might actually care for her…”
“As for the chili water, I had nothing to do with that!”
After Dorothy finished speaking, the others chimed in:
“That’s right, Nathaniel, what happened afterward had nothing to do with Dorothy.”

As soon as they finished speaking, Nathaniel grabbed the heavy solid wood chair beside him and hurled it at them with force!

“Josephine has targeted Dorothy for years, and just because we helped her get some payback, you’re this angry?”
Nathaniel didn’t hear a word they said. He pressed the man against the wall and punched him again and again, venting his fury.
The man was beaten until he was barely conscious.
Seeing Nathaniel so crazed, the others didn’t dare make a sound.
In the past, they thought Nathaniel only saw Josephine as a target for
revenge.
Now, seeing him lose control like this, they realized that wasn’t the case
at all.
Nathaniel was being dishonest with himself; clearly, he cared about

Nathaniel stomped on the man’s bloodied face, then pulled out a dagger and threw it to the ground with a clang.
“Whichever hand touched Josephine, cut it off yourself. Don’t make me do it!”
Everyone was horrified!
Dorothy, standing to the side, was so frightened that her eyes rolled back and she fainted on the spot.
When she woke up again, those people were gone, and only her parents remained by her side.
She heard her parents pleading desperately:
“Nathan, are you really going to call off the engagement with Dorothy because of Josephine?”
“Josephine isn’t innocent. She orchestrated the kidnapping out of jealousy for Dorothy. If you hadn’t paid so quickly, Dorothy might have been killed by her!”
“Josephine has bullied Dorothy for years. Isn’t it only fair that she suffers a little?”
Hearing this, Dorothy quickly got up, dragging her weak steps to Nathaniel’s side, clutching his sleeve tightly.
“Josephine is always scheming against me, and she even tricked you out of so much money. Why are you still defending her?”
“Nathan, look at me. I’m the one you love most!”
Nathaniel lowered his eyes, his gaze falling on Dorothy’s tear–streaked face, utterly devoid of warmth.

Dorothy was chilled to the core by his cold, indifferent look.

She had known Nathaniel for so many years, but had never seen him like this.
What kind of spell had Josephine cast on him?
With that thought, Dorothy suddenly grabbed the glass on the table and smashed it hard onto the floor.
With a crisp “crack,” the glass shattered into pieces.
Dorothy picked up a shard and pressed it against her wrist, her voice trembling as she said, “Nathan, don’t force me. If you break off the engagement for Josephine, I’ll die right in front of you!”
The glass was extremely sharp, and blood began to seep from Dorothy’s wrist.
Nathaniel finally reacted.
He stepped up to Dorothy, snatched the sharp glass away, then took a handkerchief from his pocket and gently wrapped it around her wrist.
This series of actions rekindled a spark of hope in Dorothy’s dim eyes.
She knew it–Nathaniel couldn’t really be so heartless.
He still loved her!
But in the next moment-
The man bent down and whispered in her ear:
“You can’t die yet.”
“If you die, who will atone for Josephine’s suffering?”
