Someone in the crowd snorted, “So she’s the mistress? Tsk, she’s got good looks, but using that to wreck. someone’s family? Gross.”
“She’s seriously shameless. Flirting right in front of that man’s wife? What a piece of trash,” echoed another
person.
Those negative comments sent ripples through the crowd.
People’s judgmental voices rose around them, but Evelyn didn’t look affected.
She hadn’t done anything wrong, anyway. She stood straight, unbothered by the noise.

Her husband and son, the ones she’d poured her heart into, had turned their backs on her without hesitation. Their betrayal didn’t hurt anymore.
She’d been stabbed in the back more than once, and she was used to it.
She thought to herself, ‘I stopped expecting anything from them when I saw through them. When there’s no hope, there’s no more pain.
Evelyn looked straight at Clarissa, who was still basking in her own smug glow, and smiled with a flicker of challenge in her eyes.
She said, “I agree with you, man. She’s really shameless. Flirting with my husband right in front of me.”
Evelyn didn’t care about Adrian or Noah anymore, but that didn’t mean she’d sit back and let Clarissa enjoy her victory.
Clarissa’s smile vanished in an instant, and tears welled up in her eyes.
Noah noticed that and ran at Evelyn, shouting, “It’s all your fault. You made Claire upset. I hate you.”
He screamed while swinging his fists at Evelyn, hitting her over and over, a few blows landing right on the spot where her stitches had just come out.
Evelyn’s gaze turned ice–cold. She raised her hand and slapped Noah across the face, firm and fast.
“Your mom is over there. Didn’t she teach you not to throw tantrums at strangers? She might let you get away with everything, but I won’t,” said Evelyn, her voice calm but sharp.
Noah froze on the spot. He stared at Evelyn with disbelief in his eyes.
“You hit me?” he said, his voice shaking. His eyes welled up, lips trembling.
If this had happened before, even if he’d done something wrong, Evelyn would’ve sat him down and taught him with patience. She’d never yelled at him, let alone raised a hand.
This was the first time Evelyn had ever hit Noah. It was a huge blow to Noah. He stood there, shocked, not

Evelyn didn’t react to his hurt expression. She just turned and looked at Adrian and Clarissa with a soft smile.
“Wish the three of you–sorry, four of you–all the best. Adrian, make sure you’re home when the court summons arrives,” Evelyn sneered.
And with that, she walked away, her head held high. As she reached the curb to call a cab, a Maybach rolled up beside her.
The driver’s side window lowered slowly, revealing Nathan’s clean–cut profile.
“Get in,” he said curtly.
Evelyn didn’t move. She stood there, staring back at the three people in the garden.
Nathan’s brows drew slightly together. His lips pressed into a tight line, and his deep–set eyes gave nothing
away.
“Dad, I think Mom really doesn’t want us anymore.” Noah’s voice trembled, small and fragile.
It was hard to tell if it was the sting from the slap or the fear in Evelyn’s eyes that scared him more.
Clarissa noticed Adrian’s face had turned dark. A flicker of cunning passed through her eyes. She reached out and gently stroked Noah’s soft cheek.
She then spoke up, her voice full of fake warmth. “Noah, every mother loves her child. I know you were trying to stand up for me, and that means a lot.
“But you’re still Evelyn’s son, and that’s a fact. She must’ve felt hurt hearing you call me Mom. That’s probably why she lost her temper.”
