After calming Noah down, Clarissa turned to Adrian with a gentle expression. “Ady, why did you just call me that in front of her? Can you imagine how that must’ve made Evelyn feel?
“Why don’t you talk to her and calm things down? That man looks like Nathan. He suddenly got close to Evelyn. I’m worried he might have ulterior motives.”
Her voice sounded caring, but there was no hiding the seeds of doubt she was trying to plant.
Clarissa knew men too well, especially men like Adrian.
They could party all night, flirt around and call it business, but the second their women stepped even a little out of line, they’d see it as a serious problem.
Everyone on the floor had heard the gossip of Nathan carrying Evelyn out when she was sick. He even set up her care and personally arranged for her doctor. There was no way Adrian hadn’t caught wind of it.
Even if he didn’t love Evelyn anymore, he wouldn’t accept being publicly humiliated like that—seeing her wife leave with another man.
Clarissa gave him a soft look, and when she saw the growing anger in his eyes, a sly smile flickered across her face.
‘You’re done, Evelyn,‘ Clarissa muttered inwardly, smug and satisfied.
Adrian gently wrapped his coat around Clarissa’s shoulders and said, “We’ve been outside for a while. Let me take you back to rest.”
Clarissa nodded with a gentle smile. Just as she got up, she swayed and pretended to faint.
Adrian caught her easily, slipping his arm under her legs and waist, lifting her up.
Clarissa leaned weakly into him, resting her head on his shoulder.
One arm holding Clarissa, the other holding Noah’s hand, Adrian started walking toward the hospital building.
The sunlight spilled over their backs–a tall, strong man, a delicate, elegant woman, and a cute kid bouncing along beside them. It looked like a perfect family portrait.
Clarissa tilted her head just enough to glance back in Evelyn’s direction, her gaze full of triumph.
Evelyn’s smile turned mocking. Clarissa’s little act didn’t rattle her one bit. Evelyn thought, I’ve stopped expecting anything from Adrian and Noah. Why would I let a third party mess with my mood?‘
“Madam, my time is not free,” Nathan said, his voice low and edged with impatience.
“Sorry,” Evelyn replied as she opened the car door and got in.

Not long after, they arrived at the company. As soon as they stepped into the office, Evelyn noticed the stiff air in the room. Everyone looked exhausted with dark circles under their eyes, their faces pale and tired. It was clear they pulled an all–nighter.
“How’s everything going?” Nathan asked.
Instantly, the tension in the room shot up.
The project lead, Joey Salas, hurried over to them and reported, “Mr. Ford, we created three versions. Please take a look and let us know which one you prefer.”
Evelyn couldn’t help but admire the team’s hustle. She sighed in her mind, ‘These folks are really something. Nathan didn’t even give a direct order, and they still made three versions. No wonder they all look so drained.‘
Nathan nodded. Then Joey brought up the finished videos for them to watch.
As the videos played, Evelyn was completely drawn in. The work was sharp and on point–they’d nailed the tone she was going for.
When the third video ended, she clapped without thinking and praised, “They are incredible. Way beyond what I expected.”
Joey smiled but didn’t look relaxed until she glanced at Nathan. Nothing was locked in until the CEO gave word.
“We’ll go with the first version,” Nathan said calmly.
The entire clerks in the office collectively let out a breath of relief upon hearing Nathan’s reply.
“Mr. Ford, um, about what you promised me…” Evelyn stammered, turning to look at him.
