Chapter 24
Meanwhile, Nathan and Clayton walked out of the Horizon Group building, just as they heard Evelyn had plans tonight. Nathan frowned at the news.
Clayton, sharp as always, instantly explained, “Mr. Ford, Ms. Stevenson’s college advisor is having a birthday party at the Starlight Hotel tonight. Adrian is taking Clarissa along, Guess Ms. Stevenson is gonna crash the party”
Nathan snorted before his face suddenly turned cold. He snapped, “Did I ask you?”
Clayton immediately shut his mouth, though he couldn’t help but grumble internally, ‘Being an assistant is already tough. Being Mr. Ford’s assistant? That’s hell–level hard.
‘Since when does he care so much about a woman? Others might not see through that poker face of his, but I know exactly what’s going on in his quiet mind.
‘I was just worried Evelyn couldn’t handle those two bastards, and since we’re going to the same event anyway, I figured it’d be a good chance to help him get closer to her. Thought I was doing him a favor… Well, I was stupid.
Evelyn was getting her hair and makeup done when Helena, scrolling through her phone, suddenly froze. “Evie, isn’t this your apartment? The one you bought before you got married?”
Helena handed her phone over. Evelyn’s face dropped the second she saw what was on the screen.
Evelyn hadn’t expected Clarissa to be this bold. She actually set up another trap after the intrusion.
The news report said police had busted a sex trafficking crew in that neighborhood last night. Even worse, there were pictures of Evelyn being escorted away by two officers.
Her eyes had been pixelated, but anyone who knew her would recognize her instantly.
Evelyn let out a bitter laugh, though it held no humor. Today was her advisor’s birthday. He had helped her so much over the years, so Evelyn definitely wouldn’t miss it. And honestly, she was dying to see just how disgusting Adrian and Clarissa could get.
She had been planning to let things slide for her advisor’s sake. As long as Adrian and Clarissa behaved themselves, she wasn’t going to stir the pot.
But now? They were clearly trying to push her off a cliff.
Evelyn nodded. “Yeah. That’s my house.”
Helena’s jaw dropped. After Evelyn explained what happened last night, she slammed her hand on the table, furious.
Even the makeup artist was shocked that Evelyn was lucky to have made it out in one piece.

“Damn it! Just hearing about this is pissing me off. How can you stay so calm? I’m not letting this slide? Helena pulled out her phone and called her brother.
“Walter? I need a favor. Last night…” Helena, fired up, launched into the whole story before Evelyn could stop
her.
“You’re the best, Walter. Love you,” Helena cooed before hanging up.
She then turned to Evelyn and said, “Relax, hon. My brother’s on it. We’ll know exactly what kind of trash Clarissa is in no time.”
At 7:30 PM, the two of them drove to the Starlight Hotel. Taylor Brennan had mentored some seriously high- level talent over the years, so the guest list was packed with influential people from every corner of society, including business tycoons and social elites.
Evelyn had expected a simple alumni gathering, but this was clearly much more than that.
As Evelyn and Helena walked into the party hall, Clarissa immediately spotted them. She’d been waiting for Evelyn to show up all night.
But the moment Clarissa’s eyes landed on Evelyn, her face twisted with jealousy.
Evelyn was wearing a soft yellow evening gown that made her flawless skin glow like moonlight. She wore no flashy jewelry, just a set of elegant accessories and a loosely pinned–up hairstyle that brought out her natural grace.
Some people were just born to stand out. Even in a sea of faces, they could shine like the lead in a spotlight.
