Chapter 22

KASMINE

Kester? What are you doing here?I asked. It was such a stupid question. I know

Isn’t this the way to the restroom? You didn’t tell me it was out of bounds, Mine,he replied with his hands casually in his pockets

Oh. I am sorry. I justI was surprised to see you here,I swallowed the needles in my throat

The way he stared at me felt like he was seeing right through whatever pretense I was trying to put up

I listened, prayed, and wished that Jake remained in there. If Kester sees Jake and I coming out of the same space, he’d kill us both

rep aside

So, let’s go, then,I said as I made to move past him, but he didn’t step

I never said I came to look for you. I was heading to the restroom, too,He said, and my heart gave a loud thud. I could swear he heard it

I couldn’t let him go in there. He’d see Jake, and he’d know we were in there together

It’s a bit messy in there. I’ll have the janitors clean up the place before you use it. They seem not to have cleaned the place all day,I said, crinkling my nose in irritation

I’m certain you used the ladies. I’m going into the gents. It’s certainly a lot cleaner than what you just described, He tilted his head, his eyes narrowing as he studied me

He seemed to have known what was happening

I bet he knew

It was at that point I realized I hadn’t even checked where Jake had taken me to The ladiesor the

Thankfully, a timely intervention came just as he was about to walk past me. Kester’s phone rang. He didn’t seem like one who wanted to answer the call at first, but when he pulled out his phone and saw the caller ID, the muscles on his face tensed up immediately

Yes?He said into the phone, unable to hide the irritation in his tone. What?He almost yelled as he walked past me back into his office

KESTER

Fucking pervert

I punched the table before me, and everything on it tumbled to the floor. The resounding crash barely scratched the surface of the rage coursing through me. My chest heaved as I stood there, hands braced on the desk, glaring at the chaos T’d just created

Alpha Kex. That slimy bastard

He had made good on his threats, and now I felt like a sitting duck, vulnerable to every petty game he had up his sleeve. All because I refused his ridiculous request to marry any sister

I know I may have been a little too harsh with his people and with my words to them when I dismisend his—- telling them they were lucky to leave without bloodshed nat Van

He had promised to do everything within his power to frustrate my company, and he had begun

In his words, he said, We’ll lower our prices to levels you can’t even begin to compete with.”

And now, he’d done it

How in Dreagor’s name could Valor Lante Technologies slash the price of the most wanted product in the industry

-the Sentinel 12X Quantum Serverfrom $98,000 to a jawdropping $56,000

They weren’t even running at a loss! They were fucking running a charity

A move like that was financial suicide for any ordinary company, but not for them. Not for a packfunded empire with resources so deep they could bleed money just to bury me

How foolish

I loosened my tie from my neck as beads of sweat tickled down my forehead

What could I do? If I matched their price, I’d risk dragging my company into the red. If I didn’t, I’d lose the trust of my clients those who relied on us to stay ahead of the curve, who believed in Zamfort Technologies as a symbol of strength and innovation

More of his threats began to resurface in my memory

We’ll set up a branch right across from your flagship location and wipe out your business.‘

I grabbed my phone from the desk, my hand trembling with barely contained rage, and dialed Sylvia, my head of operations

Sir?She answered

Listen to me, Sylvia,I barked, pacing the room. I want detailed reports on every property near our flagship location. Every single one within a mile radius. I want to know who owns them, who’s leasing, who’s selling- everything!”

Understood, sir. Should I-”

Do it now, Sylvia!I cut her off, my voice sharp enough to draw blood. If Kex even breathes near that location, I want to know about it before he does.”

I ended the call without waiting for her response, my breath ragged as I raked a hand through my hair

We’ll secure exclusivity with your biggest suppliers, leaving you stranded. My jaw clenched as the memory of his smug grin burned behind my eyelids..

I punched in the number for Grant, my procurement lead

Grant, I need you to lock down contracts with every single one of our suppliers.”

sir, we already have

Not good enough!I snarled. I want exclusivity agreements in place by the end of the week. Sweeten the deal if you have to extended contracts, bonuses, whatever it takes! Just make sure Kex and his pack of vultures don’t get a sliver of what we have.”

Grant hesitated for a moment too long

Did you hear me, Grant?”

Yes, sir. I’ll get on it immediately.”

The phone call ended with a click, but the pressure in my chest only grew heavier. I flung my phone to the floor in anger

I had to take these precautions before I decided on what to do to that subhuman

We have a marketing plan to convert your top clients into ours”

I snatched my phone from where it had landed after I’d thrown it. The screen was cracked, but it still worked. I punched in the number for Julia, my head of client relations

Mr. Kester?Julia’s voice was bright and professional, as always, but I wasn’t in the mood for pleasantries

Julia, get on the phone with our top clientsall of them. Starting now.”

What should I-”

Offer them incentives,I interrupted, Five percent discounts on their next four purchases. Nomake it ten. And add a free upgrade on their current systems. Whatever they’re using, I want them to feel like gods when they use it.”

That’sgenerous,she said cautiously

It’s necessary,I growled. Kex is coming for them. He’ll promise them the moon, but you’ll make them feel like they already have it.”

Understood, sir. I’ll have my team start contacting them immediately.”

And Julia?”

Yes?”

Make it personal. I don’t care if you have to invite them to lunch, dinner, or a damn spa day. I want every single one of them to feel like they’re family.”

Yes, sir.”

I ended the call, tossing the phone onto the desk as I leaned forward, my breathing uneven. My heart hammered against my ribcage like it was trying to break free..

Kex wasn’t just coming for my company. He was coming for my reputation, my legacy, and the people who believed in me

He wanted a war

Fine

I’d burn his empire to the ground before I let him take what was mine

Synopsis : My Stepbrother

Kasmine’s world shattered the night she witnessed her stepbrother, Kester Hamilton—the Alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack—murder an innocent man in cold blood. What began as a normal evening in the woods turned into a nightmare that would haunt her forever. The man Kester killed was no threat; he had only been talking to Kasmine. Yet Kester justified the murder by claiming the man tried to force himself on her.

Trembling and terrified, Kasmine confronted him, refusing to believe his twisted explanation. But Kester’s demeanor remained disturbingly calm. He didn’t show an ounce of remorse. Instead, he scolded her for being dramatic and tried to drag her back to the party, as if nothing had happened. When she resisted, he unleashed his Alpha command—a power no wolf could defy. Under his control, Kasmine’s will crumbled, and she obeyed him like a puppet.

As she returned to the party—ironically, Kester’s girlfriend’s birthday celebration—Kasmine’s heart broke. The brother who once protected her now scared her more than anyone else.

Her mind drifted back to her childhood, to the days when Kester had been her hero. After her father’s death, her mother remarried Alpha Kade Hamilton, Kester’s father. At the time, Kester was fourteen and Kasmine was only seven. He took her under his wing, treating her like a precious little sister. He brought her gifts, defended her from bullies, and made her feel safe. To everyone around them, Kester was the perfect big brother.

But as Kasmine grew older, that “protectiveness” became something else—something dark and possessive. By the time she turned sixteen, Kester had started isolating her from others. He didn’t allow her to have male friends, and even her time with female friends was limited. He wanted her attention, her trust, and her presence—all to himself. It became suffocating.

Now, at twenty years old, Kasmine had no boyfriend and barely any social life. Every time she tried to rebel, Kester reminded her that she should wait for her fated mate when she turned twenty-one and got her wolf. Her parents saw his control as love and protection, never suspecting how toxic and obsessive it had become.

After witnessing the murder, Kasmine was emotionally destroyed. She couldn’t eat, sleep, or think straight. The image of the lifeless man haunted her. Luckily, she only had to see Kester on weekends, since he was busy running both his pack and his billion-dollar company—Zamford Technologies. But even from a distance, his control continued. He had bugged her phone and laptop, monitoring every message and call. There was no escaping his watchful eyes.

Trying to focus on her studies, Kasmine pushed herself to attend her final year of college. She was preparing for her internship, and for once, she felt hopeful. She had submitted three company choices, deliberately avoiding Zamford Technologies to stay away from Kester. Her best friend, Jake—a guy she secretly liked—had applied to the same companies. She dreamed of being placed in the same one as him. Maybe then, away from Kester’s shadow, she could experience normal life, maybe even love.

That morning, she rushed to campus, still hopeful about the internship results. At the school entrance, she met her best friend, Claire, who looked visibly upset. Claire confessed she had been posted to J&F Technologies. Her disappointment wasn’t about the company—it was about Kester. Claire had nursed a crush on him for years and had listed Zamford Technologies in hopes of working near him. But her wish had failed, and she’d lost her chance.

Trying to comfort her, Kasmine asked about her own posting. Strangely, Claire didn’t answer, avoiding her eyes. Confused but impatient, Kasmine dragged her to the information board. Her heart raced as she scanned the list, looking first for Jake’s name. He was placed at Plush Technologies—one of the options they’d chosen together.

Excited, she searched for her name next, praying to see it under the same company. But her excitement quickly turned to dread. Her hands trembled. Her breath caught in her throat. There, beside her name, was written: Zamford Technologies.

The world seemed to tilt around her.

It couldn’t be real. There had to be some mistake. How could she, of all people, end up at her stepbrother’s company—the very place she’d tried hardest to avoid? Panic rose in her chest as the realization sank in. Kester must have done this. Somehow, he had found a way to manipulate her placement, ensuring that even in her professional life, she couldn’t escape his grasp.

Her mind flashed back to his piercing green eyes, his dominating voice, the way he’d ordered her around after committing murder without remorse. Now, he would have full control over her again—for hours every day. There would be no hiding, no breathing space.

As she stood frozen before the board, Kasmine felt her fragile hope for freedom crumble. She had spent years yearning for the day she could make her own choices—turn twenty-one, find her fated mate, and escape Kester’s suffocating hold. But now, destiny—or rather, Kester’s manipulation—had pulled her right back into his world.

And deep down, she feared that this time, she might not make it out alive.

Themes and Tone:
“The Alpha’s Obsession” explores the darkness behind overprotective love, the trauma of control disguised as care, and the pain of being trapped by someone who claims to love you. The tone is tense, emotional, and suspenseful, building a deep sense of dread as Kasmine realizes that every path she takes leads her back to the same monster she once called “brother.”
