The drive was torture

Not really the kind with knives or blood or screams. No. It was worse. It was the kind where the awkward silence threatened to rip your skin apart. I swear, every second dragged its feet and stared at me, daring me to breathe wrong

I was seconds away from bolting out of the moving car

Kyrie was putting on his dark shades. But it still felt like he was dissecting me from the corner of his eyes

I wish he’d just take off those shades so I’d be sure he wasn’t

For a second a very stupid, selfdestructive second I was scared he recognized me

But later, my fear turned into terror when he looked at me like he was just seconds away from forcing himself on me if I didn’t give in to him willingly, if he were to ask

There’s something about men like Kyrie. They don’t ask twice. They don’t wait for the doors to open. They break them

Kyrie wasn’t stupid, I could tell. If he ever touches me intimately, he’s certainly going to figure me

out

Saint had taken away my favorite perfume and warned me never to use it ever again. I didn’t need

thesis

He didn’t want Kyrie to smell it on me and figure me out

If I had already gotten my wolf, it would have made all these close to impossible because from that

night at The Vanity, Kyrie would have already marked my scent, so it wouldn’t have been difficult for him to have figured me out

I didn’t know if I should be thankful or not. And I didn’t even know why Saint didn’t want Kyrie to

know I was the one

Chapter 24

Maybe it wasn’t just about me. Perhaps it was about power, leverage, and control

Saint looked like someone who liked having the upper hand, even if he had to step on someone’s throat to keep it

Still, I wasn’t about to poke the big bad wolf just to find out. I just needed to secure my mother’s peace. So, I’d do every single thing Saint asks me to. Including going to his office for reasons I didn’t even know just yet.

The car swerved into a huge building made of glass. It was a huge shopping complex, boldly written SPENDERSDESIRE

It truly lived up to its name. Because the moment we walked in, I was tempted to spend money I didn’t even have

What are we doing here?I asked carefully, but Kyrie didn’t respond. He just walked ahead, and I followed

Between Kyrie and Saint, I didn’t know who was worse. They were both disturbingly cold, and they gave me the chills

I followed, doing my best not to be nervous. There were way too many people around, shopping their lives out. Didn’t want to look like a stupid highschool girl because I already felt so out of place here, like I’d shown up at a royal gala in rubber slippers

The guards stationed at random intervals didn’t look like the regular rentacops either. They were big, uniformed, and carried themselves like soldiers out for blood. You don’t get that for a public shopping complex unless something behind the scenes requires it

We reached the elevators. He pressed the B button, and here’s where my philosophical paranoia kicked in. A small panel opened, and Kyrie leaned in. It was some kind of retina scan

Retina scan

For an elevator

WhyI meanDo all customers do that? Verify before using the elevators? Isn’t this meant to be a public space? Why do they need verification

I wonderedBut I dared not ask Kyrie. His countenance told me he wasn’t in the mood for Q and A.

Chapter 24

The machine blinked green, and the elevator doors opened with a soft, sinister ding

He walked in, and I followed

And I swear, as the doors closed, sealing me into a space with him again, I felt my own pulse whisper, This isn’t about shopping, is it?‘
