The angrier Valerie got, the brighter Audrey smiled. “Then, Mrs. Patel, where do you think my money comes from?”
Valerie looked at Clayton, unwilling and jealous to the point of tears.
Clayton’s face, already dark, was now shadowed even more. He realized he didn’t know Audrey at all.

When they discussed the prenuptial agreement, she agreed without hesitation. Jade said Audrey was easy to fool, but now it seemed Audrey just didn’t want him to share her property, and signed decisively.
They split expenses evenly after marriage, and apart from household costs, Audrey never asked him for money, and he never asked about her income. She was just a secretary, after all. Yet she could spend 300 thousand dollars at SR.
Both Samson and Malcolm treated her very politely. Something was off. Clayton couldn’t figure it out and tried to read the answer in Audrey’s eyes.
Audrey sneered at him, “Mr. Patel, before you make baseless accusations, show some evidence, or I’ll sue you for defamation.”
Clayton took the receipt from Valerie’s hand. Audrey really was an SR member.
Under Audrey’s sharp gaze, Clayton felt uncomfortable. After a moment, he stammered, “Audrey, the money I gave you was to guarantee your future, not for you to squander.”
“In Mr. Patel’s mind, 150 thousand dollars guarantees my future?” Audrey laughed angrily. She thought, ‘Did he not understand Ironhaven’s cost of living, or did he think I would go back to my humble state after divorce?‘
Valerie finally remembered. She’d used Clayton’s card to make a purchase and suddenly found $150,000 had been transferred out. She missed out on that dress because of it. She couldn’t tell if that money was for Audrey.
So, when Clayton said they split expenses and Audrey didn’t spend his money, it was a lie.
“Audrey! You’re divorced from Clayton. Why are you spending his money?” Valerie screamed without thinking.
Audrey lazily leaned on the counter, tapping her fingers. “Oh, you reminded me. When I wasn’t divorced from Clayton, all your expenses came from him, so as his wife, I could claim them back.”
“You–you said we split expenses after marriage. I was spending Clayton’s money.” Valerie sheepishly moved to stand behind Clayton.
“Splitting household expenses doesn’t mean he can keep a mistress on the side.” Audrey looked at Clayton. “Mr. Patel, just because you married her now doesn’t mean she’s not a mistress.”
Clayton watched Audrey and Valerie fight, feeling a bit satisfied. She really cared about him; otherwise, she wouldn’t have silenced Valerie so thoroughly.
“Audrey, come here…” Clayton pulled Audrey aside.
Valerie tried to follow but was stopped by Clayton’s look. He then pulled Audrey a bit farther away.
Clayton said, “Vally and I had a fake marriage. Her mother’s hysterics were bad. After calming her mother, I’ll divorce her. Now I know my heart; the one I love has always been you.”
Audrey shook off his hand and threw a challenging look at Valerie, the same way she had disgusted her before. ‘See? So what if we’re divorced? Clayton still cares about me the most. Valerie’s expression turned fierce.
Audrey turned back to Clayton coldly. “Looks like Wyatt didn’t tell you everything.”
“What?” Clayton asked.
Audrey didn’t answer and walked to the counter. “Call me when the bag arrives. I’ll pick it up myself.”

The store manager hung up the phone and rushed over. “Audrey, since you’re one of our valued customers, the store manager said this bag is on the house for you, and the previous payment will be refunded.”
Audrey went speechless.
“Why?” Valerie was shocked.
Audrey’s eyes fucked as she whispered near Valerie, “Of course, because I’ve spent a lot before. I wonder how much you can spend now that you’re Mrs. Patel?”
“Thank you.” Audrey nodded to the manager and turned to leave.
Valerie was about to lose her mind. She had wanted Clayton’s background all along. Audrey could spend more than 300 thousand dollars of Clayton’s money, she must spend even more.
“Clayton! I want to buy a bag too! That one!” She looked around and picked bags worth over 30 thousand dollars. “Bring them here. I want to see!”
“You don’t work or entertain clients. No need to buy such an expensive bag.” Clayton’s eyes never left Audrey’s departing figure.
“Audrey, a poor girl from a poor town, can buy one, why can’t I?” Valerie absolutely wouldn’t let Audrey outshine her.
She was a native of Ironhaven, with a household registration page worth millions, and she was Clayton’s childhood friend, once Samson’s favorite artist!
Clayton ignored her and followed Audrey out, watching her walk away.
Audrey was on the phone as she headed toward a white Land Rover.
That million–dollar car was also Audrey’s. She thought, is she really just a secretary? Or is Clayton unknowingly a shield for Audrey’s close relationship with someone else?‘
Jealousy, unwillingness, and anger surged in Clayton’s heart. No wonder when he proposed building a real relationship before being a true couple, Audrey didn’t object. She was eager for it.
His wife of one year, whom he had never touched, might be with another man somewhere else, sharing intimacy. Clayton suddenly clenched his fist. The sharp pain from his fractured middle finger snapped him out of his near–madness.
He thought, ‘What if… what if Audrey really had some big shot backing her out there? Then why didn’t anyone step in when she was sent to Ashwood Mental Hospital?
Without that person, Audrey was just an ordinary woman. She used to be a secretary–getting a membership using her boss’s perks would’ve been easy. That car she drove was probably borrowed, too.
Clayton slowly calmed down, but suddenly, someone grabbed his arm.
“Clayton! I saw a bag I like. Buy it for me.” Valerie dragged him inside.
When Clayton saw the receipt, his face dropped. It cost over 40 thousand dollars.

Valerie’s eyes widened, “What kind of suffering didushe even go through in Ashwood? She was just starved for a few meals, locked in a tiny dark room for a few days, and you gave her 150 thousand? It’s not like your money grows on trees!”
