He had sent Audrey to Ashwood Mental Hospital just to let her calm down, and when he told Leo he would take care of her, he genuinely meant to look after her, not bully her as they thought.
Because Ashwood Mental Hospital was being strictly investigated, Leo and his wife believed the root cause was Clayton sending Audrey there, which annoyed the powerful people behind Audrey, so they were determined to drag Clayton into trouble.

Clayton slowly took the glass, his eyes showing an indescribable mix of emotions, including conflict, regret, and helplessness.
He held the cup for a long time before saying hoarsely, “You and Audrey… Can you help me ask her…” Clayton wanted Carson to help him ask Audrey for a letter of forgiveness, but he couldn’t bring himself to say it.
Carson stood by the hospital bed with his hands in his pockets, looking down at him, and cut Clayton off bluntly. “She won’t remarry you, so forget it.” His attitude and tone faintly showed disdain, making it clear he was completely on Audrey’s side.
Clayton was extremely upset. He picked up the glass and drank the water in one gulp, which finally soothed his throat a bit.
He wiped the water from the corner of his mouth with the sleeve of his hospital gown and said, “You don’t understand her. She not only loves me but should also repay me. I helped win her father’s wage dispute case, and she will never forget this favor.”
“So what?” Carson sneered. “Just because you once did her a favor, you can recklessly take advantage of that to help Valerie bully her over and over
again?”
Carson had come to ask Clayton about donating bone marrow, but after hearing his heartless words, the last bit of sympathy in his heart vanished. Carson decided to no longer get involved in Clayton’s affairs.
Carson turned his head and scoffed, and when he looked back at Clayton, his attitude was much more distant. “Audrey is a good woman, and you don’t deserve her at all. If you’re still a man, stop pestering her.”
A flash of jealousy instantly rose in Clayton’s eyes. He gripped the cup and asked through gritted teeth, “You think you deserve her? I know your purpose in taking care of Luna. You just want to gain her sympathy and create opportunities to contact her.”

Carson panicked for a moment but quickly regained his composure, even feeling a sense of relief at no longer needing to hide.
He nodded with a smile. “I do want to pursue her. We’re both single, so it’s perfectly reasonable. You’ve married Valerie, so you should take good care of her and keep your promise instead of pestering your ex–wife again and again.”
“Clayton, don’t tell me you regret divorce. You don’t think Audrey is better than Valerie and want to win her back, do you? If so, at least you should become single first instead of having an affair,” he added.
Carson’s words were like a dagger stabbing straight into Clayton’s heart, leaving him unable to retort for a moment. Clayton did regret divorcing Audrey.
Valerie was simply not someone he could live a good life with, far inferior to the independent Audrey. Valerie cried every time he couldn’t satisfy her, and Cheryl would storm into Clayton’s house whenever she was unhappy.
Divorce was not that simple. But he was afraid that before he could divorce Valerie, Audrey would remarry first.
Seeing his former friend now pale and in pain, Carson didn’t want to hurt him too much. He raised his wrist to check his watch and said, “I have something else to do. Just have a good rest.”
Carson turned to leave, but just as he reached the door, Clayton called out to him. Clayton placed the glass on the cabinet and said, “Carson, help me ask Audrey for a letter of forgiveness. I’ll try my best to meet any of her requirements.”
If he couldn’t win Audrey back, Clayton at least wanted the letter of forgiveness. After losing everything, Audrey would look down on him even more, so he had to become powerful again and make Audrey regret leaving him.
Carson turned back and looked at Clayton as if he were a stranger. He really hadn’t expected Clayton to make such a disgusting request.
Clayton felt embarrassed and said helplessly, “If I can get her forgiveness for sending her to Ashwood Mental Hospital, Emilia would have the chance to get me probation. Maybe I won’t have to be imprisoned at all.”

Clayton looked evasive. His law firm had only started making money after getting married. Half of his salary was kept by his mother, and after social and living expenses and taking care of Valerie, he managed to save 600,000 dollars with great difficulty.
He had paid Audrey 300,000 dollars in divorce compensation, and Cheryl had taken another 300,000 dollars under the pretext of an engagement gift. Now that he had no income, he was practically penniless.
