At Davis Manor, Audrey sat on the bed in her wedding gown, waiting for Yann to arrive.

“Why?” Lena was curious.

More games followed, but nothing could slow them down. When the knock finally came, Lena jumped. “G–gifts first!” 

“Open the door a crack, or how do we hand them over?” a voice teased from outside. 

“I won’t fall for that.” Lena braced against the door. “The second I open it, you’ll rush in. Yann, just transfer the money to my account.” 

With that, Lena shot Audrey another nervous glance. “He won’t do that, right?” 

Audrey shook her head, amused. “He won’t.” 

Pressing her ear to the door, Lena listened intently–chaotic chatter outside, but no sign of Yann’s voice. 

Just then, the window slid open. A figure vaulted inside with practiced ease. 

Lena whirled around and shrieked, “Yann, you can’t climb through the window. That’s cheating!” 

Yann landed smoothly, straightened his suit, and then took the bouquet passed through the window. He approached the bed, saying gently, “Sweetheart, I’m here.” He offered the bouquet to Audrey. 

As Audrey took the bouquet, her fingers brushed his–icy cold. 

Autumn rains had brought a chill, but Yann’s forehead glistened with sweat. There was no reason for his hands to be so cold. 

Audrey leaned in, whispering, “Are you nervous?” 

Yann blinked. “No.” 

When he moved to lift her, he noticed her bare feet. His gaze snapped at Lena. “Where are her shoes?” 

“You have to find them first,” Lena said, arms crossed smugly. She was certain he could never guess the hiding spot. 

Yann nudged her aside and yanked the door open. 

Calvin, who had been leaning against it, tumbled in, followed by Quentin, Hardy, Edward Wheeler, who was Hardy’s base manager, and a crowd of 

guests. 

Yann announced with a grin, “40 thousand dollars to whoever finds the shoes.” 

Lena’s jaw dropped. “Yann, just give it to me, and I’ll hand the shoes over.” 

“Move, you little traitor!” Miles hauled her out into the hallway, 

Lena grabbed Owen’s sleeve to steady herself. “You bully me! I’ll tell Mom. I’m the family princess, and you’ll all be kicked out someday.” 

“Why?” Owen frowned. 

Lena glanced at him, realizing she had crumpled his sleeve in her grip. She hastily smoothed it out and explained, “Men forget their mothers after marriage. That’s why boys in my family move out after the wedding. Only I get to stay.” 

“So your future husband has to live with your parents?” Owen teased. 

“Right,” Lena declared before ducking back into the room. “Move!” 

Miles intercepted her at the door. “Tell me where the shoes are, and I’ll split the money with you.” 

Lena raised her chin. “70-30. My favor.”

Grabbing Miles‘ tie, Lena yanked him down and whispered in his ear. 

Straightening, Miles immediately called out, “It’s under the mattress where Audrey’s sitting.” 

“Humph!” Lena pummeled his back in betrayal. 

Miles feigned agony while Yann lifted Audrey. Calvin’s hand slid beneath the mattress, and he soon produced one shoe. 

“Traitor!” Lena stuck out her tongue at Miles. 

Miles looked at Everett, and Everett nudged his wife forward. Time for Plan B. 

Everett’s wife approached Lena and coaxed, “Lena, just tell us.” 

“Never! Ah! Stop tickling! You’re all… ganging up on me! I’m telling Mom.” Lena couldn’t stop giggling. 

Lena writhed, tears welling up in her eyes as she struggled not to give in. Audrey was amused. 

The clock was ticking. To save time, Yann handed Lena a gilded envelope. “Talk.” 

“For real?” Lena wiped her eyes. 

“Yeah.” Yann nodded. 

Lena took it and shot Audrey an apologetic look. “Sorry, bribery wins.” 

The room erupted in laughter. 

Still giggling, Lena finally gave in. “Well, the other one’s in the chandelier.” 

No one would have guessed she had hidden the shoes there. 

Calvin stood on a chair and fished out the shoe. Yann knelt, slipping it onto Audrey’s foot. 

“Wait! You lied!” Lena shrieked. She tore open the envelope and found a check worth 40 thousand dollars. 

As she lunged for the shoe, Yann swept Audrey into his arms and carried her out, leaving Lena flailing at empty air.
