Back in the car, Audrey messaged Yann a Thumbs–up emoji. This was their previous signal, meaning the matter was settled.
Inside the leader’s office, Yahn hadn’t expressed any opinion yet. If Audrey needed him, he could help handle it.
Upon receiving the message, his eyes softened. He thought she’d softened after getting married, but when needed, she still showed her sharp claws.
“Send me the detailed project materials via my secretary. The company needs to evaluate it.” Yann stood up.
“Alright.” The leader also stood up to see him off.
As they left, Audrey’s car just passed the bureau gate.
Tiffany, sitting in the front passenger seat, was flipping through documents in disbelief. Last time she tried for a whole month but couldn’t get approval. Her admiration and respect for Audrey increased.
“That Mr. Patel… is Clayton’s older brother?” Tiffany didn’t want to say ‘ex–husband‘ – it felt like an insult to Audrey.
“Yes.” Audrey nodded. While waiting at the red light, she saw a Maybach drive out of the bureau in the rearview mirror and smiled a little more deeply.
Tiffany sensed her good mood and hugged her document bag tightly. She felt so stupid. With Audrey’s ability, if she wanted credit, she’d have taken it from Chief Secretary Edana. She was so easily misled.
Tiffany smiled and suddenly thought about the cooperation with Baldwin Biotechnology.
Audrey was the one who found the problem. Tiffany was confused why she didn’t seize the opportunity to lead the project. She thought, ‘Was Edana stealing her credit, or did Audrey deliberately let Edana have it? Something’s wrong. There’s definitely a problem.’
Tiffany looked at Audrey. She honked the horn twice, but there was clearly no car ahead. She looked back, but the Land Rover had already turned the corner–nothing was there, just the sound of a horn.

Wyatt went back to his office and angrily threw down two cups.
They lacked nothing at home. He thought, ‘Grandma’s family is well–off. So how could my mother be someone who’s so cheap?
‘Audrey’s words couldn’t be completely trusted, but they couldn’t be completely dismissed either. I have to ask my mother how much of it is true. It isn’t
too late to fix things.‘
Clayton got turned away again at Kinsia House. The once calm and elegant man had become irritable due to his career slump. He reported to the police. “I can’t reach my wife, she’s not answering the door. I suspect she might be in danger.”
The property service wasn’t great, but the gate was well guarded. When they saw the police car arrive, they immediately notified the property manager.
The property manager arrived as Clayton explained the situation to the police,
“No breaking the door!” The property manager was annoyed. The last time the police came, it was because Clayton had let someone else live in the house, and now again.
The property manager said, “I just contacted the owner. She said she divorced Mr. Patel. If Mr. Patel breaks in, it would be damaging personal property, and she’ll pursue legal action.”
“Is she the wife or ex–wife?” The police officer asked seriously.

Clayton’s face went pale. “Ex–wife, but we’re about to remarry.” He looked at the property manager. “Call her now. I want to hear her voice, or I’ll doubt. Your intentions.
The police agreed it was better for the manager to make the call.
The phone quickly connected. The property manager put the call on speaker. Before he could speak, Audrey’s voice came through.
“Manager, the property service is for the owner’s benefit. This house belongs to me personally. Anyone trying to break in or occupy it will be dealt with legally, including if the property company fails to act.”
“Audrey…” Clayton snatched the phone from the manager.
The call went dead. Clayton’s blood pressure soared.
When Wyatt called, Clayton snapped, “What now?”
Wyatt shot back, “Did you get shot? Come to the hospital right away. I need you!”
“I’m busy here…”
“Busy with what? Your law firm is closed! Come now!” Wyatt didn’t give him a chance to refuse and hung up.
After being hung up on twice, Clayton felt a sharp pain in his chest. He signed the police report and rushed to the hospital.
Lillian fainted the moment she learned her husband’s career was over and that he was going to jail.
Clayton arrived at the ward just as Lillian woke up, her face pale as paper. She glared at Clayton like he was an enemy.
Clayton stiffened and looked at Wyatt. “Any news about Dad?”
A cup shattered at Clayton’s feet. Lillian’s lips trembled with anger. “How dare you ask! Dad’s trouble is your fault! It’s because you brought that bitch
back!”
Clayton said nothing. The root cause of his father’s trouble was his mother’s greed.
If she hadn’t secretly accepted those suspicious gifts, his dad wouldn’t have been reported. If she hadn’t taken those gifts, Riley wouldn’t have squandered them and wouldn’t have suspected Audrey of stealing money. Audrey was the victim.
He didn’t agree with his mother’s words, but since she was too upset, he didn’t argue. She fetched a dustpan
to
clean the broken glass from the floor.
Seeing his expression, Lillian thought he believed her. Thinking about what their eldest son said, she felt even more upset.
She thought, ‘Audrey actually keeps a list of the people who give me gifts when she visits the compound? I don’t even remember who I’ve accepted things from, but somehow she carried around a little notebook?
‘The worst part is, Audrey–just a lonely girl from a small city–actually despises my own son! Who does she think she is? No background, no assets, divorced from Clayton–and she still expects to find a decent man?‘
If Audrey hadn’t threatened her in front of Wyatt, Lillian would suspect the notebook was some kind of trap.
“That… that Audrey’s bad luck. Stay away from her!” Lillian asked Wyatt to pour her a glass of water.
Clayton almost refused. He wanted to remarry Audrey.
Last night at the banquet, he overheard many people praising her beauty and grace. Clayton felt a pride he couldn’t explain. She was his woman, and she not only ruled the kitchen but also the dining hall.
If they had been happy together, given how Samson treated Audrey compared to himself, he wouldn’t have been so miserable last night. He might even have made more connections. He was wrong. He shouldn’t have gotten divorced. So he had to get things back on track.
