Chapter 149
Cleo stared him down. “There’s no point talking anymore. You’d better hope Maxine makes it out of that operating room alive. I might not be able to take you down, Sebastian, but when it comes to dealing with Kathleen–I’ve got more than enough fight left in me.”
Sebastian’s eyes were bloodshot as he rasped, “You won’t have to. I’ll handle her myself. Soan.”
“I hope so.” Cleo’s words were like ice as she turned and left with Jessica without looking back.
Meanwhile, back at the Mason estate, Brian finally stepped out of his room. The butler and the cook, Alisson, were visibly excited and quickly brought him his favorite pastries.
Brian looked a little awkward as he asked, “Where’s Dad?”
The butler paused, puzzled. “Mr. Mason got a call just a little while ago and rushed out. Seemed urgent.”
Brian nodded. He’d already made up his mind–once Sebastian came back, he was going to beg him to take him to see Maxine. He needed to explain about the stolen evidence. And then, he’d move back in with Cleo again.
He clenched his small fists. ‘This time, I won’t mess it up.‘
Just then, the house intercom buzzed. The butler answered and turned to Brian on the sofa. “It’s Kathleen. She’s here to see you.”
Brian nodded knowingly. “Let her in.” He wanted to ask her some stuff too.
Kathleen stepped into the Mason home, glanced around, and didn’t see Sebastian. “Is Sebastian not here?” she asked.
The butler shook his head. “Mr. Mason stepped out for something urgent.”
Kathleen’s heart skipped with joy. “Do you know what it was about?”
“We don’t question Mr. Mason’s business,” the butler replied curtly.
Kathleen forced herself to stay calm, though her chest fluttered with anticipation. She knew the Jenson family had already made their move. If all had gone according to plan, Maxine should be lying in the emergency room by now. All she had to do was wait for the news of her death, and then she could marry Sebastian without any more obstacles.
She glanced over and spotted Brian on the sofa. Putting on her sweetest voice, she walked over. “Brian, why didn’t you go with your dad?”
Brian looked at her with a stern little face. “Kathleen, why did you lie to me and make me steal from Mom?”
Kathleen froze, completely caught off guard by his bluntness. “What?”
“You told me that Mom’s briefcase had their divorce papers in it, but it wasn’t that at all–it was evidence she needed to fight for justice. You tricked me.”
She hadn’t expected someone Brian’s age to speak with such clarity and conviction. Flustered, she stammered, “I… I didn’t know. I just thought it might be divorce documents. That’s all.”
Brian’s voice was tinged with disappointment. “Then you should’ve said that clearly. Because of you, I almost ruined everything for her. Next time, don’t just assume things like that.“/
Kathleen was stunned. The same little boy who used to listen to her every word was now speaking to her like a stranger. She blurted out, “Did your mom tell you to say all this? Don’t let her twist your mind. I never meant anything like that. She’s probably trying to turn you against me.”
Brian shook his head solemnly. “Mom’s not like that.”
“You!” Kathleen’s face twisted with rage and disbelief.

Chapter 149
Before she could finish her sentence, the front door swung open–Sebastian walked in, his face dark as a storm.
She immediately ran toward him, voice trembling with manufactured hurt. “Sebastian, Brian just-”
The force of Sebastian’s backhand cut her off mid–sentence. Kathleen stumbled back and crashed to the floor, completely stunned.
