Chapter 35 

Sebastian was stunned for a moment, a hint of disbelief flashing in his eyes. He muttered, ‘Maxine is truly out of her mind! 

‘Not only does she want to overturn Ivanna’s case, but she even wants to take care of Ivanna’s daughter too! 

Sebastian’s anger was barely contained; he almost opened the car door right then. 

But just as his hand touched the lock, his phone rang 

Sebastian glanced down, his expression shifting slightly. It was Maxine calling. 

Swallowing his fury, Sebastian picked up but stayed silent for a long moment. 

Maxine’s tone was calm, even a bit indifferent as she asked, “Sebastian, are you spying on me?” 

Sebastian’s heart skipped a beat. He didn’t answer, his voice turning cold instead. “And what about you? What exactly are you doing? 

“Maxine, how long did you think you could hide it from me? Ivanna’s daughter–are you really planning to adopt her?” 

There was a brief silence on the other end, followed by the sound of Maxine chuckling softly. “I never planned to hide anything from anyone. Don’t overthink it. You and I are about to stop being husband and wife. Does it really matter if I tell you or not?” 

Rage flared up in Sebastian, spreading through him instantly. He said nothing more and hung up. 

On the other hand, Maxine listened to the disconnected tone, a faint trace of self–mockery appearing on her face. 

Maxine raised her eyes to look across the street–soon, that McLaren sped away. 

Only then did Maxine put away her phone and get back into her car. 

As night fell, Sebastian returned home with a trace of exhaustion. 

The moment he walked through the door, Brian ran up to him. 

The wound on Brian’s forehead had healed quite a bit, but his little face was noticeably thinner, making his eyes look even bigger. Right now, they were wide and searching as he glanced behind Sebastian, looking somewhat dazed. 

Brian seemed to be searching for something, and when he saw Sebastian come back alone, a flash of disappointment crossed his face. 

Sebastian stood there silently for a moment, not exposing the subtle expression on Brian’s face. He simply asked, “Did you finish your homework today?” 

“I did…” Brian mumbled, head hanging low as he shuffled toward the stairs. 

Watching his son’s lonely back, Sebastian couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy. After hesitating for a moment, he called out softly, “Brian-” 

Brian turned around. “Yes, Dad?” 

But when Sebastian opened his mouth, Sebastian found he didn’t know what to say. 

Finally, Sebastian said gently, “It’s nothing. I just… I noticed you’ve lost weight. You should make sure you’re eating well–is the food the housekeeper makes not to your liking?” 

Brian’s eyes flickered with thought, and then he nodded seriously. “It’s… not that good. I still think Mom’s cooking is better.” 

That night, Maxine’s words echoed in his ears. Sebastian suddenly felt like he understood something, but it was hazy, and he didn’t want to dig deeper. 

Chapter 35 

Sebastian thought, ‘If… if Maxine wants to divorce me because she falls in love with someone else, then … will let her go. It won’t be the and of the 

world.’ 

But just the thought of that possibility made Sebastian feel like he couldn’t breathe. 

He and Maxine had been married for years, and raised a remarkable child together. Sebastian thought they’d be like this until the end of their lives. 

But what Maxine wanted left Sebastian feeling lost. He wondered, ‘She wants love… But isn’t everything I gave her before love? 

‘Does it really have to be spoken out loud every day, clinging to each other, for it to count as love?‘ 

Sebastian’s eyes grew dark and deep. After a long while, he waved Brian over. The little boy walked up obediently. 

Sebastian said softly, “Brian, if Daddy and Mommy get divorced, don’t be sad. We will still love you… 

“And before, when Mommy hurt you by accident, it didn’t mean anything. She’s just been in a bad mood lately. Don’t blame her.”
