As she spoke, Evangeline wrapped her arms around Murphy’s neck.

Before her fingers could make contact, Murphy’s hand shot out, gripping her throat in a vise–like hold.
Evangeline gasped, choking as Murphy’s powerful grip left her unable to breathe. She struggled desperately. “M–Murphy… You’re… hurting me! Let go!”
Murphy’s face was expressionless, and he showed no intention of letting her go. Instead, he tightened his grip further.
“Gemma has cancer,” he said, his gaze as icy as a winter storm. “So why was it that on the day I took her to the hospital, the doctor told me she was perfectly fine?”
Evangeline’s expression shifted. There was a flicker of guilt in her eyes.
However, she quickly composed herself and tried to sound calm as she defended. herself. “I… I don’t know! I don’t even know the doctor! Maybe… Maybe he made a mistake during the tests?”

“Is that so?” Murphy’s eyes were sharp and unrelenting, like blades cutting through her skin. “Then why did my men just discover that the doctor who examined Gemma that day is your half–brother?”
