At noon, everyone headed to the cafeteria for lunch.
Latrina called Kelvin, hoping to meet Gerhart. Kelvin let her into the elevator, and she went straight to the CEO’s office.
“What’s up?” Gerhart glanced at the computer, still expressionless, but today he looked more confident in his
white shirt and vest.
Latrina wondered if it was the shirt she had ordered for him.
She walked over and placed a bag on his desk.“Here are your clothes. Thanks.”
Gerhart looked at the bag and then at her.“Not feeling well?” he asked.
“Yes…” After their talk yesterday, she felt it was unnecessary to discuss personal matters.“If there’s nothing else, Mr. Crowley, I’ll leave,” she quickly said.
“Okay,” he replied.
She felt dizzy and nauseous, so she took the afternoon off and went to the hospital.
The waiting line was long, and she dozed off, only waking up groggily when her name was called.
After briefly explaining her situation, the doctor started asking questions.
“Name.”
“Latrina.”
“Age.”
“Twenty–two.”
“Did
you have sex last month?”
“Yes, but I took the pill.”
“The pill only blocks about ninety percent. There’s still a small chance of pregnancy. Let’s do an ultrasound first.”
The doctor was sophisticated and spoke with a smile.
Latrina was terrified, clutching her white dress tightly as sweat broke out on her forehead.
The pill wasn’t 100% effective either?
She swallowed hard and came out with the form, looking absent–minded.
Her eyes turned red as she thought of her mom, who had raised her alone after having her with a businessman. Only the two of them knew how hard it was.
Walking down an empty hallway, she nervously looked at the ultrasound form, terrified that it might show a baby.

She was only twenty–two and hadn’t figured herself out yet.
She sighed deeply, trying to relax, but the more she tried, the more nervous she got.
She considered texting Gerhart, but he had blocked her. If she called him, he might not even pick up.
This made her even more anxious.
Latrina bit her lip, trying hard not to cry.
Just then, she saw a familiar figure approaching.

Sonya, who was less than three months pregnant but already showing a bit, walked with an older maid carrying her stuff.
Latrina, are you here for a checkup too?” Sonya asked sarcastically, eyeing the pregnancy test slip in Latrina’s
land.
Her eyes were lifeless, and her dark eye circles made her look completely different from the stunning girl she
ised to be.
Sonya.” Latrina folded the form and hid it behind her back.
Nice move!” Sonya gritted her teeth, wishing she could tear Latrina apart.
Why are you mad?” Latrina asked.
She knew what Sonya meant and felt happy inside, but seeing Sonya’s lost look, Latrina also felt sorry for her.
What Latrina had lost was a jerk, but what Sonya had lost was a husband and the father of her child.
n contrast, Latrina was lucky.
Hmph!” Sonya huffed, tears streaming down her face.
Now that the marriage between the Gillespie and Howell families didn’t happen, you must be thrilled, right? Eduardo loves you, but he got me pregnant. You had ambitions. How can you deny it?”
Latrína didn’t deny it.“Did it really matter whether I knew about all that crap between you and Eduardo or not?

you
In the end, it’s all because you don’t respect yourself. The Gillespie and Howell families were just planning a marriage to team up. You freaked out that I’d steal Eduardo. That’s why you pulled such a dumb stunt. Totally pointless!”
‘Latrina! You’re just a bitch with a mom but no dad! Who the hell are you to judge me?”
Sonya and Latrína used to be close friends, but now Sonya was attacking Latrina with her background. Latrina felt dazed and didn’t argue back, staying silent for a long while,

Latrina didn’t expect their friendship to end up like this.
She snapped out of it when the broadcast called her name.
She didn’t want to argue anymore. After all, this was a hospital, and their conversation had already drawn

strange looks.
“Sonya, let’s just stay like this,” Latrina said, ready to leave. But Sonya caught her in the hallway.

“Latrina, it’s been less than a month since you and Eduardo broke up. Are you hanging out with some random guy and using me and Eduardo as your excuse?” Sonya asked.
“Sonya, show some respect!” Latrina couldn’t stand it anymore.
If she wasn’t pregnant, she really wanted to slap Sonya.
“Latrina! What are you nervous about?” Sonya walked up and snatched Latrina’s test form away.
“Give it back!” Latrina tried to grab it back, but the maid stopped her.
“Sure enough!” Sonya figured out what the test was about.
Latrina’s nose turned red, and tears welled up in her eyes.
All these years, her classmates often joked about her being an illegitimate child, but Sonya always stood up for her. Now Sonya was using her flaw to attack her.
“Do you know why I’ve been protecting you all these years?” Sonya laughed, mocking Latrina for being frivolous and pretending to be noble in front of others.
Latrina didn’t know before, but now she could kind of guess.
“Because Eduardo liked you and I liked Eduardo, I had to be the perfect person around him. Everyone thought
I was nice, and Eduardo warmed up to me, but they had no idea how much I actually hated you!”
Sonya’s words shocked Latrina.
Even the closest friendship could be a lie.
All these years, her care and concern were fake.
Her boyfriend was fake, and her bestie was fake too.
How ironic!
Latrina understood, and tears started falling down.
“Give me the form back,” she said slowly, trying to control her emotions.
“Tell me who that guy was, and I’ll give you the form back.”
Sonya pulled the maid away and walked up to Latrina.
Latrina wasn’t stupid. She wouldn’t fall for Sonya’s tricks.
Gerhart was a big name in the clothing business. If she mentioned his name, Sonya wouldn’t believe it and
would even humiliate her.
Plus, Gerhart had blocked her yesterday, so even if she admitted it, he might not step up to confirm it.
“Give me back the form!” Latrina reached out to grab it, but Sonya slapped her in the face.
Latrina’s face was burning. The hospital felt like it had frozen, and the only sound was the broadcast calling her

name over and over.
Latrina just wanted to take the form and get away from this disgusting person.
She reached for the form again, and Sonya reached out when she wasn’t looking.
The form was snatched back. Latrina thought she was going to get hit again, but to her surprise, a big hand stopped Sonya’s raised hand in midair.
