Chapter 27
They slept for a few hours on the plane. When they arrived in France, it was four in the afternoon.
They quickly changed into warm clothes at the airport, then met up and headed to the hotel.
“Mr. Crowley, your room card.” Jacqueline handed out room cards to everyone in the lobby of the fancy hotel.
“Mr. Manning, you and Mr. Farley were in the same room.”
At last she went back to Latrina:“Ms. Glover, you come with me.”
Latrina sneaked a glance at Gerhart and let out a sigh of relief.
“Okay.”
Their floors were different, and the room layouts were different too.
Gerhart was on the phone on the first floor, telling someone something, and everyone else went upstairs.
Latrina also hurriedly followed Jacqueline into the elevator.
She came into the room and was a bit surprised. Her room with Jacqueline wasn’t a twin room, but a king–size room, a super fancy one.
That was really extravagant!
Latrina was so tired. As soon as she dropped her luggage, she plopped down on the couch, half–asleep.
‘Mrs. Crowley, I’ve packed your luggage for you. If you need anything, just call me.” Jacqueline was packing Latrina’s suitcase in front of the wardrobe.
But her suitcase didn’t move.
‘Huh? No need, I can do it myself, you go ahead and do your thing.” Latrina hurried to her feet.
She still wasn’t used to being called Mrs. Crowley, and it always felt kind of weird.
And she had already packed everything up.
Alright…
At that moment, the doorbell rang.
Jacqueline hurried over and opened the door.
Latrina sighed and lay on the couch, facing away from the door.
Gerhart hire the new secretary for her?
She was brought here like a totally useless tool, and she thought hard about it.
There was no more noise outside the door, just the sound of leather shoes clicking and the suitcase wheels rolling.
“Tired?” Gerhart’s voice.

Latrina, who had just closed her eyes, suddenly opened them and turned her head to look back. Jacqueline was already gone, and Gerhart was there instead.

Latrina sat up with her pillow, looking confused, and several words floated through her mind:
“I’m doomed-.”
Gerhart didn’t explain her reaction, but just packed his things and put his clothes in the wardrobe like it was nothing.
Turns out Jacqueline was just a cover, which confirmed what she guessed. Jacqueline really was the secretary Gerhart hired for her, just to make things “convenient.”
Damn, she just relaxed and now she was tense again.
If you’re tired, go back to your room and rest for a bit, then go out to eat two hours later.”
He sat on the sofa next to her, opened his laptop, put on his Bluetooth earphones, and started working.
Oh.” She looked uncomfortable and didn’t dare go back to her room, afraid he’d follow her in. That would be even more awkward.
She thought back to how flustered he was yesterday morning.“I… want to…”
I’m not tired.” She picked up her phone, pretended to be busy, and sent a message to Sierra.
Sierra, tomorrow bring him over to your place for a free meal.”
Arrived in France?”
Yeah!”
Video call” Sierra called with a video call.
… Latrina got so scared she hung up right away.
Gerhart lifted his eyelids and looked at her.
Latrina bit her lip, thinking she had disturbed him. She knew he didn’t like to talk, so she tried to act calm and explained, “Mom’s call.”
His expression flickered, and his long fingers touched his earpiece:“The meeting’s delayed by ten minutes.”
He took off his headphones and put the computer aside.
“You were in a meeting?!” She was a bit surprised. Was he even this quiet during meetings?!
“Yeah.” He got up and walked toward Latrina, and an invisible, powerful pressure came with him. He sat down next to Latrina, and his burning breath instantly surrounded her.
Latrina had no way out, the sofa armrest was already right next to her.
So, what did he come here for?
“Video call” Sierra was pretty persistent with her video calls.

Latrina swallowed, fluttered her eyelashes, hesitated about whether to answer, but then noticed Gerhart was watching her the whole time.
Courting death! The outgoing side of her was totally suppressed!
She picked up her phone with a slight tremble, swiped the screen, and answered.
The three of them showed up together on the phone screen.
“Gert! It really was you!” Sierra sat in the yard drinking coffee, carefully checking out the golden couple in the
video.
Latrina only saw from the video that in the small frame, Gerhart kept moving closer to her, so close that she could feel his hot face right next to her ear.
‘Mom.” Gerhart.
Yesterday I heard from Ms. Barrera that the one you married was Trina, then I remembered! No wonder your photo looked so familiar that day! When did you two get together? How come there wasn’t any hint at all?”
Sierra didn’t leave any room at all, and she fired off a bunch of questions in a row. Latrina didn’t know which one to answer first.
Sierra, I’ll explain these questions to you another day, okay.” Latrina.
Gerhart snickered.
When are you coming over tomorrow? I think you could be here in half an hour according to your location.” Sierra kept talking nonstop, not noticing the awkward look on Latrina’s face at all.
Mom, we’ll
go after we wake up. We’ll call you ahead of time.” Gerhart tilted his head and glanced at Latrina.
Oh!” Sierra got it and understood what he really meant.
Mom, we just got off the plane,” Latrina joked hurriedly.
Sierra got the hint and quickly said, “Let’s talk tomorrow! You guys get some rest!”
Beep-”
atrina hurriedly took back her phone and let out a sigh of relief,
But when did his hand go around her waist? And it was so natural, too.
Then
you go to the meeting first, I’ll go back to the room and rest for a bit.” She pointed at the room.
‘Okay,” he said.
She stuffed the pillow between Gerhart’s legs, covering the bulge there, then hurried off.
Gerhart looked at the hollowed–out spot, then at the pillow, lowered his eyes and curled his lips.
“Click.” The door to the room closed, and he could faintly hear the soft sound of the lock turning.
Latrina paced around the room with her hands covering her face.
“Buzz-”

Her bestie Oaklyn Baird, who lived in France, called.
“Oak…”

Latrina glanced at the door in a playful way, afraid that Gerhart outside the living room might hear her, so she walked toward the balcony.
“Trina, I heard you came back? Did you come with that CEO you married in a flash?” Oaklyn sounded really gossipy.
Yeah, I was just looking for you!”
Latrina lay by the balcony, looking at the sky with light snow. She reached out her hand and caught the tiny falling snowflakes.
“What’s wrong? You already ran into trouble just a few days after getting married?”
Latrina felt a bit embarrassed and stayed quiet for a while.
“Is it that thing?” Sure enough, Oaklyn, who had been through a lot, got it with just a glance.
“Are you a worm in my heart?”
“Come on, what else do newlyweds do besides that?! How is this a tough question? This is a freebie! Just looking at the photo you sent me, I could tell he was really good at it. Don’t tell me you guys haven’t even started the second time yet?”
“Come on, the first time hurt so much! I felt like I was about to break, how could I dare to do it a second time?”
Latrina said this into the phone, blushing, and immediately felt she was so dirty.
Latrina mumbled with a sigh, “Couldn’t walk well for three days…”
“You worried too much, it didn’t hurt the second time…”
Latrina was pacing back and forth on the balcony while listening to the phone. Suddenly, she stopped.
The conversation also stopped abruptly.
