Chapter 17
Chapter 17
/-Selene-/
My eyes fluttered open suddenly.
I shook my head when I remembered how I landed in prison unconscious.
How was he doing?
Were the eyes still hurting?
I pushed myself up on my trembling elbows and regretted it that instant.
Every eye in the cell was on me.
It wasn’t pity.
It was rage. Their eyes burned with hate, and for a second, I felt like disappearing.
“She’s awake,” one of the wolves snarled.

I turned my head slowly, but in each direction I turned, there was a pair of angry eyes boring into mine.
“What’s going on?” I muttered.
Where is Finn? I thought.
“You little wretch!” One of them cried.
“How dare you share the same air we breathe?”
I looked around again in confusion. They had started circling me like I was prey.
“What…what…did, what did I do?” I stuttered.
“You are not a rogue!” One of them spat.
My heart stopped.
Someone had given me away.
Who, then, told them I wasn’t a rogue wolf?
“How dare you!” Another shouted. “You are a member of the RavenCrest, yet you are bold enough to share a prison room with us. I guess you know the implications?” He spat and clenched his fists so tight that I could hear his bones creak in protest.
I swallowed hard and tried to control my breathing.

Chapter 17
Who the hell had told them?
Did someone hear Finn then?
Or was it my reaction to Thorne’s call?
Whichever one it was, that wasn’t what mattered now.
The main issue at hand was that they were ready to kill me.
“Hey,” I started off sweetly.
“You are wrong.”

“Liar!” He growled and charged at me, but Finn stepped in at that moment with his arms outstretched.
“Don’t you dare touch her!”
They didn’t flinch.
They didn’t move an inch.
I thought they respected him, but not when a wolf from this pack was involved.
“Get out of the way, Finn!” He growled. “Else you die with her.”
Finn stood where he was, but I could tell he wasn’t confident.
“No one will die today, please.”
Another wolf screamed.
“She’s the reason we are here. She is the reason we are kept packed up like dead chickens. Her pack, this damned pack, burnt our homes, slaughtered some of us and rendered us homeless, some of us childless, some motherless and others orphaned. It’s the rule; wherever they are found, they should be killed, and you can’t change that, Finn, so move. I won’t ask you again.”
“She’s not one of them,” Finn shouted. “I promise you she’s different; she’s not like them. She’s a victim too.”
I shivered.
Why was he protecting me this way?
He just met me a few hours ago.
Finn turned to me quickly and whispered.
“Don’t speak. Allow me to fix it.”
I nodded in response.

Chapter 17
I wasn’t even going to say anything.
There were no words in my mouth.
The minute Finn turned to continue arguing, a blow landed on his cheek.
“Finn,” I screamed, tears running down my face.

Another person threw a blow, but Finn deflected it. Then another came and another till they lunged as one, and chaos erupted.
I curled up in a corner crying as I watched Finn fight with everything he had.
I wish I could help.
I desperately wanted to.
But where do I start from? I couldn’t even throw a punch.
I heard a loud growl, and within seconds Finn’s wolf clawed out of him; his fur tore through his skin, and his snarl was as loud as thunder when it rained heavily.
I gasped.
It was serious.
It was a matter of life and death, and I also knew it was a matter of time before I died because we were
outnumbered.
Did I just say ‘we‘?
I didn’t count.
Finn was outnumbered.
I thought his wolf would scare or intimidate them, but I was wrong. It got them even angrier.
“You dare protect a Raven wolf!” One of them screamed. “The Alpha will hear this!”
The Alpha? I muttered.
What Alpha? And how will the Alpha hear it since they were in prison with no hope of getting out?
I was dragged out of my thoughts when they all began to shift.
I cried.
It definitely was my last day on earth, and no doubt it would be a painful death.
Deep snarls filled the prison as each of them tore at Finn.

Chapter 17
My back hit the wall as lots of bodies collided and blood splattered across the ground.
“Finn“, I muttered.

He was losing.
Dying too.
I watched helplessly as one of them bit into his side, causing him to fall to the ground with a thud.
He whimpered, cried and begged that I be left alone.
“No,” I cried. “Stop, he is dying. I’m the target; come this way.”
There was silence.
Then, one by one, the Wolves turned to me and began walking towards me.
I breathed shakily.
There was no use living; after all, I was better off dead.
I stared at Finn, he wasn’t moving.
They had injured him so badly but left a little life in him, though I didn’t know if he would survive it.
One Wolf ran; the moment he got to me, he raised his claw to strike, but something inside me snapped.
A loud, deep snarl left my throat, and the wolf froze midair with his claw suspended.
Then the other rogue paused.
“Argh!” I screamed in pain.
Something was happening to me, and I didn’t know what it was.
My vision was clouded as heat poured from my skin. My fingernails had gotten so long and strange.
My bones were breaking as something tried so hard to break free from inside me.
It was my wolf!
I was shifting,
But how was that possible?
The wolves lunged again, but I struck back.
I didn’t shift completely.
Part of me was still human, but the other part was scary; I couldn’t look at it.

Chapter 17
I roared as I fought.
Digging my claws into anything near me.
One by one bodies fell, till I heard the metal door creak.
Just then I went back to myself.
It was so fast that I doubted I had shifted.
I turned to Finn’s body on the floor.
“Finn“, I muttered.
“Please don’t die,” I cried.
