Chapter 41
/-Selene-/
My jaw went slack.
“Child? What do you mean child?”
The word echoed in my ears longer than it should.

“Yes. There is a child,” she said the second time, clearing my doubts of not hearing her clearly the first time.
A strange cold settled in my stomach, and for a second, I thought I might lose consciousness again.
What I felt was worse than what I felt when the poison enveloped my whole body.
I couldn’t move or speak.
I just stared at the priestess‘ lips, willing her to say it was a prank.
“No way,” I whispered.
She rested her other hand on my stomach again, “Not even an ultrasound scan can detect it now, but it will be detectable in a week or less. The child growing inside you is small and fragile, but very much alive.”
“How then did you know. How….”
“Child,” she muttered, now resting her hand on my stomach.
“This is what I have been called to do, this is what the moon goddess says, I am just her mouthpiece.”
“No,” tears clouded my vision.
No! The moon goddess doesn’t have to punish me this way, not after suffering rejection over and over again from Thorne.
But then how was it even possible, I never…..
I paused in my thought as I remembered I had a threesome with the twins days ago.
No way, I got pregnant from that.
My throat burned as confusion, pain and chest hit my chest.
I looked away and bit my lower lip hard trying hard not to break down.
“So you are trying to say the pregnancy might lift the curse completely?”
“I have no information about that, but I know something is happening.”

“Please,” I muttered still refusing to turn her direction. “The twins shouldn’t know. Don’t say it to anyone else, please.”
She kept quiet for some time and I was forced to look at her.
“You are a woman too, even though you are slightly different from us, I believe you know what this means especially when you are rejected.”
She nodded.
“Then help me. Keep it to yourself and let everything unfold on its own as the day goes by,” I clasped my hands together.
“The goddess keep you child,” she whispered and ran her hand over my stomach again.
“Carrying so much power even at such a tender stage.”
She stood up, brushed invisible dust from her gown and opened the door.
Kaelen, who had stood outside since, rushed in immediately.
“Is she okay?” He muttered and rushed to my side.
“Is it the poison? What did you find? Is she alright?”
The priestess kept mute for some seconds and stared above his head as though she was seeing beings we couldn’t see.
“Mark your mate, doom is around the corner, doom lies with you here in this royal house, the enemies are closer than you think.”
She turned and walked away, leaving both Kaelen and me completely stunned.
The moment she was out of earshot, Kaelen turned to me shortly.
“What did she find? What did she say? Is it something dangerous, or something we should rejoice about?”
I blinked.
My mouth had gone dry again.
“Uhm….she..she said that I fought the poison on my own and that it was a sign that I am a different kind of wolf. She also said that the curse might be lifted soon.”
I lied horribly.
Kaelen squinted his eyes, obviously not buying the words I said.
“Is that it? Just the poison?”

“Yeah. That’s all she said,” I answered calmly, giving no room for suspicion.
“She is surprised at how my recovery was unexpected and rare.”
He inhaled deeply and rubbed the back of his neck.
“Come on, let me take you to your room. You shouldn’t stay in the healer’s tent.”
“Yeah. I miss my bed,” I laughed nervously.
He offered his hand which I took quickly.
My body felt lighter, but my feet still felt a little off, as though they weren’t part of my body and when I walked, it felt like I was floating.
As we walked down the hallway leading to my room, I kept my head bowed low to avoid making eye contact with any of those saucy maids, or even the ever–curious guards.
Standing at the end of the hallway was the devil I prayed to not meet at all.
Elara. She looked confused, and I could tell she had already noticed the transformation in my body.
“Selene?” She called more like a question.
Thankfully, Kaelen didn’t stop walking, he didn’t even spare her a second, let alone a minute.
He tightened his grip on my hand and continued walking.
Elara rushed forward quickly.
“Wait,” her lips trembled. “What happened? How….”
I shot her a “shut the fuck up” stare and continued walking with my head held high.
She froze where she stood, but I didn’t turn to look in her direction again.
When we finally reached my room, Kaelen opened the door and helped me inside.
“Will you be fine alone?” He muttered.
“Yes. Thank you.” I answered. All I wanted at that time was to stay alone.
“I will go get your meal prepared then,” he whispered, hovered around the door longer, then whispered, “I will
be back.”
I didn’t respond.
I waited till he left, then jumped out of my bed.
I rushed to the mirror on the other side of the room and stared at my reflection.

Chapter 41
My skin was beautiful.
:
But then, that wasn’t what I wanted to see, my stomach was my greatest concern.
I lifted my shirt but didn’t notice anything different.
Could the priestess be wrong? Could it be the healing powers in me was what she sensed?
I shivered and wrapped my arms around myself.
Finn.
I needed to speak with him.
I needed him to tell me if his sister had also gotten pregnant before her transformation.
I just needed someone to talk to.
Then a thought flashed through my mind.
I had seen him with the clothes the guards wore, what was I missing?
I changed my clothes and walked out of the room
