Finn followed me without objection, and when we got inside, I had to lock the door to avoid those mannerless intruders who always barged into people’s rooms without knocking.
Finn stood in the middle of my room, darting his eyes left to right and back to me.
“Sit,” I offered him a chair politely.
“Won’t you sit?” He noticed I was still standing, but in all honesty, I couldn’t sit. My legs were too shaky to rest.
Finn drew his eyebrows tightly.
“What’s going on?” He whispered. “When did you start noticing these changes?”
I took a slow step forward.
“Finn,” I muttered, trying carefully not to jinx my words with the crazy thoughts running in my head.
“Your sister,” I finally muttered. “When did you begin to notice her transformation? Did anything happen? Did anything trigger it? I mean, was she poisoned?”
He blinked hard and tilted his head backwards, probably to push back the tears that gathered in his eyes.
I didn’t mean to remind him of his sister that way, but I desperately needed assurance.
“She got pregnant, and the changes that came with her pregnancy were magical,” Finn answered.
My world stopped.
In fact, the room started spinning.
“You mean,” I whispered. “Oh, pregnant? Weird.”
He kissed his teeth and rubbed his palm on his shorts.
“She didn’t know at first, but by the time her baby bump was out, her physical appearance had changed a lot, until that bastard…..” he caught himself quickly.
“What bastard?” I arched my brows.
“I mean,” he began stuttering.
“Until she left.”
“Is something the problem Selene? Do you think…..”
“I feel it’s the poison,” I interrupted him quickly before he had the chance to ask me that question that hung in
his throat.
But honestly, I wanted to tell him that I was pregnant already, but the words died before I could even form them
“I don’t know honestly,” he reached out for my hand.
“I appreciate honestly. Nobody would have done that for me. I see my sister in you always and I want you to know I appreciate you so much,” he muttered softly.
His words were touching, but then wasn’t the right time to smile over words.
I had life–threatening problems that needed real–life answers to solve.
“Thank you, Finn,” I muttered.
He raised an eyebrow.
“I’m here now, as a guard, Alpha Thorne gave me the position to appreciate me for keeping you safe. So you see, I’m always around, you can talk to me anytime you want.”
“Yeah, sure,” I answered absentmindedly.
He noticed it, so he pressed further.
“Is something bothering you?”
I shook my head quickly
“I just feel weird seeing some part of my body smooth suddenly.”
Finn gave my hand a gentle squeeze.
“I’m happy.”
I shifted the topic quickly before I would give myself away.
“The heartless guard who framed you, has he been imprisoned?” I asked.
Finn bowed his head, suddenly looking sad.
“I don’t remember a thing about that incident.”
I stared at him with a confused look on my face, but didn’t press on.
“What’s going on with you and the new maid?” I blurted. I just kept talking to keep myself distracted from the main reason I had called him.
“I honestly don’t know. I felt something was off, but I couldn’t place my hand on it. She looks weird, you should he wary of her. And make sure to report everyone’s movement to me, I vow to keep you safe no matter what!” Finn promised.

Finn coughed, and before he could reply, a knock on the door threw us into a ten–second pandemonium.
“Kaelen?” Finn asked.
I nodded in panic.
The last thing I wanted was to allow Kaelen to see Finn with me, not after all that had happened.
“To the window,” I whispered.
Finn climbed without hesitation, but before he climbed out, he looked over his shoulder and whispered.
“Be careful of that maid, report anything to me first.”
“Yeah, sure,” I answered.
The minute he left, I closed the curtains and returned to open the door for Kaelen.
Kaelen stood with a tray of food in his hands, his eyes were dark, in fact, clouded with worry.
He walked in without a word, placed the tray on the table and sank into my bed.
“Hey,” I called him softly.
“What’s wrong?”
He swallowed hard, tightening his grip on my bed sheet.
The pain in his eyes touched me.
“Aiden sent a war note,” he said simply.
“War?” I asked. “Why?”
Kaelen bit his teeth so tightly that his veins popped out.
That was the only way he knew to regulate his emotions.
“That bastard demands compensation for their spy who died during the mace hearing, can you imagine the guts! The one who sent that pin into Finn’s neck, besides he killed himself, yet that arrogant fool wants a member of the RavenCrest family as a repayment.”
“That’s ridiculous!” I shot.
“You want to know what’s worse?” Kaelen added.
“They’ve formed an alliance with the Blackan clan, the letter is carrying their seal.”
“With both of them, we will be reduced to dust, the Blackans are wild!”

Chapter 43
I exclaimed with my eyes wide with horror.
“Yeah, I know,” Kaelen answered.
“Though we are working on something, we pray the moon goddess looks on us with pity.”
I nodded, fear rising in my heart.
“How is Thorne?” I suddenly asked.
In response, Kaelen stared at me as though he had never seen me before.
“I know you’ve gotten your wolf, why didn’t you say something?”
I choked back on my saliva, but I couldn’t dodge the question.
“How did you know?” I asked while avoiding eye contact.
“No,” he snapped.
“You should look at me while speaking.”
I turned slowly to stare at him, but he leaned in and cupped my face.
“Scared or embarrassed?” He whispered, his hot breath pouring over my nape and earlobe.
“At least, you can perceive me now, you can feel me, my pain, my happiness and my desires.”
He said the last word and took my lips in his, softly and considerately.
“Kaelen,” I let out a helpless whisper as my legs gave way.
