I stood in front of the beta like a drenched dog.
I knew he would come back, but I didn’t expect it to be that soon.
I could see his eyes from the space in his mask, and I could tell he was furious.
“You heard me the first time, didn’t you? I said, where are you coming from?”
He took slow steps towards me, and I knew danger was imminent.
There was no use lying after all.
Selene would be declared missing the next day and he would still trace it to me.
“I helped Selene escape,” I answered, straightening my spine.
The Beta’s jaw slackened, He stared at me closer like I was lost or just said gibberish.
“What do you mean by that?” He asked as though he didn’t clearly understand me the first time.
I began to breathe faster.
“I helped Selene escape.”
SMACK
His fist collided with my jaw so hard that I staggered backwards.
Blood filled my mouth instantly.
“You idiot!” He yelled. “You are a worthless piece of filth! How dare you! Do you have an idea what you’ve done? I asked you to kill her, and instead, you helped her escape the pack, huh?”
He grabbed me by my collar and sent another blow into my stomach.
“Argh!” I groaned in pain when he kicked me on the stomach with that heavy boot of his.
“Come,” he dragged me up to my feet and slammed me against the cold stone wall.
“Do you know you deserve to die?” He growled.
“I should have slit your throat the moment you vomitted such dumb words!”
I coughed out blood as I tried to speak.
“Send a few rogues after her, let them kill her and make sure her body is never found. The same way you

helped her escape, release a few of them from the prison,” he ordered something impossible.
I gave a one–word response.
“No!”
His fist folded again, but before he could raise it again, I spoke up quickly.

“Wait, wait. I can’t do that, if she ends up dead right after disappearing, it will be so suspicious. Though the Alphas do not want her as their mate, it doesn’t mean they won’t go to any lengths to find out the perpetrators of such acts,” I explained.
The beta shook his head in disappointment.
“Does this make sense to you?”
“It does,” I replied quickly.
“Instead of killing her, we can use her absence as leverage. Let the Alpha’s believe the scarlet pack had got her, this is their original plan by the way, so it will buy us time……”
I stopped mid–sentence when he started laughing.
“You know what? It’s Okay, if she survives the woods tonight, fine. If she doesn’t, make sure to keep in touch, report every move she makes, every single thing that happens in her life, down to the way she breathes.”
“Yes sir,” I nodded.
“How about the maid?” He asked casually.
“You didn’t give any report, are you really incompetent or do you wish to never see your sister again?”
My blood ran cold.
I searched my head for the safest lie, but before I could speak, he slammed his fist into the stone wall beside my face.
“What’s going on!” He screamed.
I shivered, yet I didn’t say a word, my brain thought of nothing.
The Beta stared at me for a long time, then held my jaw roughly.
“You have only three days, just three to kill her. I don’t care how, make it clean. If you can’t kill her, then make sure to shut her up somehow, else….”
He left the threat hanging and walked away.
I clutched my throat while staring at his retreating figure.
That bastard!

He keeps threatening me with my sister.
I folded my fist in anger.
“I will kill you I promise, but I will make you beg!”
I stood there for a long time after he left, and my entire body was pulsing with pain.
Three days?
I had to think of something quick.
I turned and headed towards the maids‘ quarters with the hope of ending it once and for all
The maid’s quarters were so quiet, now I had a problem figuring out which room was hers.
I went through the windows, checking room by room with my knife drawn.
None of them was her.
The last room was empty, the room I suspected was hers.
Where had she gone? I thought to myself.
I climbed out through her window and noticed the footsteps.
She had also left through the window.
Suspicious, I thought.
I followed the tiny footsteps, till I stopped at the open field.
“Where did she go after her?” I whispered to myself.
“Looking for me?” A tiny voice said from behind me.
I turned quickly to see the maid smiling at me.
She had a knife in her hand as well.
I swallowed hard and stood at a loss for what to do.
“Let me guess, you need to end it tonight, huh?” She asked.
I had never seen a woman this brave.
“You know,” she started walking towards me. “We are quite alike. I know you are looking for your sister, and I’m looking for my brother. What does this mean to you? We have a common enemy,” she raised her knife.
“There is no need to kill me, it won’t bring your sister, all you need now is a partner. He doesn’t have to know, nobody has to know.”

“Put it down,” I whispered, referring to her knife that was inches away from my eyes.
“Of course,” she muttered and stepped backwards a bit.
I bowed my head in confusion.
I was better off staying in prison than whatever I was doing now.
“He gave me three days,” I muttered.
“Very well then,” she said nonchalantly.

“Tell him you were able to shut me up without killing me. Tell him you have something against me, I am a fake maid, you can use the word spy. You know why I’m helping you? It’s because I saw you help Selene now, but the next time you come to my chamber with such intentions, I swear on the goddess, I will rip your eyes from their sockets.”
