Chapter 12
BORA
“Why are you home from school early?” My mother asks the moment I walk into the house.
Why is she at home and not in the clinic she recently opened?
“I….got stained,” I mutter as I walk in fully, closing the door gently behind me.

“This is why I always tell you to take care of yourself. You are supposed to have a tampon or a pad with you when you go out?”
“Always?”
“Yes, always.” She snaps.
“I forgot,” I mutter.
She hisses as she grabs her bag from the table and her car key, “You always manage to forget something.”
“Why are you on edge?” I ask, noticing her character and movement.
“I’m not on edge. I’m just taking care of you,”
“I can take care of myself. This is my problem,”
“It’s not just your problem. You are in a pack. Number one, it’s embarrassing and two, you are almost eighteen. You would meet your mate anytime soon and is this kow you want to keep acting? All childish?”
I sigh. Here we go. I shouldn’t have asked in the first place.
“I’m not getting a mate,” I say flatly.
She raises her brow unbelievably.
“I don’t want one,” I add.
“You must be he kidding me, Deborah Ashwyn. I’m pretty sure you are not saying that with your right senses.”
I spread my hands wide and shake my head, “It’s my
choice.”
“It’s not,” she says flatly, “I only came home to rest, I’m going back to the clinic, so-”
“Do you even have patients?” I cut her off and she swallowed, visibly. I could see it.
Business was bad.
I know about the fact that doctors loved saving lives and all of that passion.

But that was in the human town where they couldn’t heal.
Not in packs.
All werewolves heal themselves. So how was she going to get a patient?
“This is why I said-”
“Hmm hmm,” she shakes her head, “Bora, not today.”
She pats my hair and walks out of the house, closing the door.
Then she opens it again, “By the way, Luna Monica invites us for dinner at 7pm.”
My face folds into a frown, “I’m not going.”
She flattens her lips, “Be nice, Bora. Afterall, Lucan helped you by giving you his sweatshirt.”

Her eyes falls to the name on it and she gives me a crooked smile, “You have to return it.” She says and closes the door.
This stupid name on the sweatshirt!
I pull it off my waist and throw it into the washing machine, marching into my room angrily.
It was embarrassing enough that he noticed the bloodstain and more embarrassing that Sapphire and my mom saw his sweatshirt.
Then dinner?
How worse could my day get?
The room is bright from the light that comes in through the window.
Bright pretty lights that shine up my existence.
“Bora, that’s not how to tie the knot.” I hear my father’s voice and I turn.
Like always, it’s all in my head.
My feet takes me to the vanity table and I open the drawer, pulling out the cross pendanted necklace.
The only thing left to remind me of my father.
Tears slipped out of my eyes as I look up, “I miss you…dad. I wish you can come back home…..come back to us.”
“Bora!” My mom screams from the living room and I get up from the bed.

“Mom.” I reply back.
“You’re done dressing up? It’s almost seven?”
Huh, I forgot about the dinner.
:
I pick a watch from the table and stare at it. Five minutes to seven.
I walk out of the room after grabbing a sweater from my wardrobe.

“You don’t remember trying Lucan’s sweatshirt outside, do you?”
I totally forgot about that too.
“Thank you,” I mutter and walk out of the house as she strolls behind me.
“Do you want us to walk or we use the car?”
“Do you have enough money for fuel?” I ask instead.

She looks at me incredulously, “I’m not broke, I have savings,” she says. “Your father also have savings too and I haven’t touched it yet.”
I swallow as I get into the car. She does the same and start the engine, while I fiddle with the crocheted hand of the carton bag.
“Mom,” I call as she moves out of the gate.
“Yes?”
“Are we going to stop looking for dad?” I ask.
Her knuckles turn white from gripping the steering wheel too tightly. She goes tense, but yet doesn’t look at
- me.
“We agreed to accept that he is dead,” she mutters.
“But we are not sure,”
“Bora.”
“I look up to the sky and I don’t….feel him there. Mom, I don’t feel him there.”
“Didn’t I tell you to stop thinking you could talk to him?” She glances at me with anger.
“Mom.” Tears slipped out of my eyes and she brings the car to a forceful stop. We’ve gotten to the Alpha’s
house.
“Bora.” She calls my name quietly, “What is better? That he is dead? Or that he is alive and doesn’t come to

look for us?”

To be honest, I don’t want to think about that. So I choose an option that isn’t there. Something mom might not have considered.
“Maybe, he can’t come to us,” I say instead.
She presses her lips together, shaking her head as she tries to hold in her tears and maintain that professional look she always had on her face, “Bora, no.”
“Mom-”
“No!” She fires at me and all my courage went down.
“No, please.” She says and wipes the escape of tears, before she comes down from the car, banging it close.
I remain in the car, staring at the carton bag, recalling her last words before she went out.
No, please.
Mom doesn’t want to think about the possibility. She claims to be perfect, but I feel she’s not strong enough to go through all the options. So she simply picks that which is easier and tells me, that dad is dead.
Because it’s more easier for all of us.
I sniff as I wipe my tears. That’s why we are here….at Moonthorne pack, because it’s easier to forget him here. Because there are no memories of him here.
But what if….
What if, I don’t want to forget him?
What if all I want is to see him again?
It hurts so much. I can’t cry it out, so my chest hurts so much. My heart feels like it’s going to burst open and there is nothing I can do.
A knock sounds on the window and I immediately wipe my tears to stare at the person. It is a guard and he is saying something.
I wind down and stare at him,
“Miss. I think it’s going to rain soon, you should come out.”
I look up at the sky and as if in cue, the rain started.
“Come out now. You can make it into the house before it starts heavily.” He said hurriedly
I stare at him blankly and he sighs, running away as soon as the rain gets heavy. I quickly pull the window back up, my chest heavy, my breath coming out in heavy shorts.

The first drop hit the window hard. My chest tightens more as I grip the seat.
My phone rings and I pull it out, it was my mom. I swipe green.
“Stay in the car, Bora. I’m coming to get you,” she says quickly and I nod, breathing heavily.
“O–okay.”

“I’ll-” I end the call, only to realize seconds later that it was Lucan’s voice. What was he saying?
I can’t try to think as the thunder rumbles loudly and I scream in a high–pitched tone as I cover my ears, feeling my heart jump.
Dad would hold my hand, “Calm down, Bora. I’m right here.”
Tears rushes out of my eyes.
What am I doing here?
I curl into the seat. There’s nowhere to run. Not when the rain falls everywhere.
A knock sounds on the window and this time, I don’t open up. What if…what if the water comes in? What if the thunder rumbles again?
“Deborah,” the voice comes in muffled.
I look at the window.
A hand wipe
s the water from it, clean and the face appears.
Lucan.
I wind down a tiny bit.
“Deborah,” he calls again, voice calm. So calm it cuts through the rain.
“Open the door,” he says, “I’m right here.”
