“Bora.” My mother calls as I step out of the house, “You sure you don’t want me follow you? You don’t know the way.” She probably feels guilty about last night by the way she’s speaking so calmly, but she won’t apologize. I don’t expect her to.
She forces a bag into my hands. “They are fresh apples. I got them yesterday while you were asleep. Give it to Lucan when you apologize, okay?”
“Okay.” I was not in the mood to argue about anything with her right now.
“I’ll come pick you up from school and get your uniform. I’ll be checking out stores to open my clinic, so pay attention in class. Try to make some friends.” She urges me on with a small push.
I walk a bit towards the gate before I turn to look at her. “Good luck.”
She smiles, “Good luck, Deborah.”
I nod and open the gate, closing it behind me. Okay, what I did not expect was this…
“Hi, Bora.”
Lucan Drayce, standing right in front of my gate. I almost fall down on my face as my legs shook. He stares at me boringly as he places his hands in his pocket.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” He says.
“I didn’t expect to see you here.” I reply quietly, noticing the black car that was not so far from us. Don’t tell me I’m riding with him to school? How worse could my day get?
“Don’t overthink it, my mom asked me to be here for your first day at school.” I was grateful for the fact that he didn’t want me to have other ideas even though I definitely didn’t need it.
“Thoughtful of her. But thank you, I would find my way myself. I shouldn’t keep you waiting.” I reply quickly and turn to the open space, ready to move away from him. He steps into my front, blocking my path and since he was a good six foot over my 5’2 frame, he covered me pretty well.
“There’s a man behind me. He’s watching us. He’ll only leave the moment you get into the car.” He runs his eyes over me, taking my stature in.
“Why should I care about the man tailing you?” I enquire, even though I think I shouldn’t have.
His eyes narrowed at me. “Because I said so.”
I scoff lightly. “Why should I do what you say?” I was already in a bad mood since I woke up, so Lucan shouldn’t try adding more to my problems. It wasn’t okay.
He gives me an amused look, like he has just found something interesting. His silver–gray eyes glint and I

raise my brow, wondering what was going on.
“You are feisty,” he mutters. “Nice. But I won’t let you cause trouble for me.”

Before I could say a word, he suddenly drags me by my wrist and pulls me towards the car.
“Let. Me. Go.” I cry out, trying to wring my hand away from his, but his hold was freakishly tight. How hard did he train to have such strong hands?
He pushes me inside the car and got in instantly, while I scoot over to the other side. “Who said you could touch me like that?”
“Touch you?” His brows went up. “Hmm hmmm, I haven’t done that…yet.”
“Are you crazy?” Anger bristles underneath my skin and I know my face is so red right now. Oh, goodness. How did one person manage to spike my anger to a measurement I knew was bad?
He smirks at me as he pulls out his earbuds and place it inside his ears, before resting his head back on the table, and closing his eyes. Is he really going to sleep? That fact alone makes me angrier. He is trying to ignore me. I am better at the game.
I pull my eyes away from him and fix my gaze on the road, making sure to take note of all the curves and turns, so I would know the road to school by tomorrow.
The car pulls to a stop in front of a large gate and my breath hitches, as I try to think. Moonthorne Academy. It was crazily big. Students in shiny and well ironed red and black uniforms like Lucan walks into the school, while we drive in.
Right now, I feel extremely bad for just donning a large jean trouser and plain sweatshirt on top. I should have listened to Mom’s advice for once today and worn something more….presentable.
The car pulled to a stop and I glance at him, wondering whether to wake him up. His eyes open ever so slowly and locks face to face with mine.
“What?” He mouths at me and I shake my head.
“Nothing.”
“Then, get down from the car.” He says and I realize I’m still sitting, making no attempt to move.
“Oh…” I gasped and pushed the door open, “Thank you….for the ride.” I say dutifully and closed the door, making my way to the bursar’s office.
I heard a door close and a quiet curse follow before Lucan appears beside me, grabbing my hand and pulling me in the opposite direction.
“This is the way to the bursar’s office.” He says when I give him a confused look and I nod my head, thankful for that. I would have had to walk the whole day, looking stupid in a jean and brown sweatshirt. I feel extremely self–conscious now.
The door opens and Lucan steps in first, taking a seat in front of the bursar without anything as much as a

greeting.
“Bora, right?” The woman smiles as me, “Take a seat. Luna Monica has told me a lot about you.”
A lot?
What exactly does she know about me?
Or does a lot means something different here?

“Thank you, Lucan, for bringing her here.” The bursar said to him pleasantly and he smiles back at her.
“If you can, get her a uniform immediately. She looks so different, like an outcast.” Lucan mutters and walks out of the office, leaving only both of us.
“Okay. Take your seat, let’s see….”
“Tell us your name and something about you.” The teacher says to me after bringing me to the class.
“Hi, my name is Deborah Ashwyn. You can….just call me Bora. Thank you.”
“Okay, so what else…”
“That’s all.” I cut him short and he looks at me, a bewildered expression on his face.
“Oh…okay. Have your seat.” He waves me off. I walk towards an empty chair and sit on it, only for someone to kick the chair from behind.
“Hey.”
I’m efinitely not the one she is talking to.
“Hey.” She pokes my back. “Someone is sitting there.”
“What?” I ask, definitely not catching the implication.
“I said…someone is…sitting there…..” She purposely said it in a drawl so I’ll get up. But I didn’t. I mean, there was no empty chair any where else.
“Hey!” She touches me again and I shift my shoulder, pushing her fingers off.
“What the ” she stops for a second and I almost turn back when suddenly a kick pushes my chair sideways and soon, I hit the ground with a loud thud. A painful groan escapes from my lips as pain spread round my stomach. A cough escapes my lips as I try to get up. She places her leg on my stomach, pressing it hardly. I almost couldn’t breath.
“I told you to get the fuck up from the chair.”
