The second I landed, I hit send on the post I’d drafted. It covered three things:
“Hey everyone, it’s Ella here.”
“I know you’re all probably buzzing about my wedding today.”
“Well, I’m here to set the record straight on three things.”
“First, my wedding to Noah is officially off.”
“And if Mr. Miller has some other bride picked out, that’s on him, not me.”
“Second, every single song Mr. Miller has released for years? I wrote them all.”
“Until now, the rights to those songs were always shared between us.”
“But the new track Mr. Miller dropped two days ago? That copyright is mine, and mine alone.”
“He let Lily sing it without my permission, completely unauthorized.”
“My lawyers are on it. I’m coming after him legally.”
“Third, Mr. Miller and I built this company together.”
“Now, I’ll be splitting it up legally, following all the rules. And after this? No more working with Mr. Miller. Ever.”
“Finally, I hope Mr. Miller gets exactly what he wished for.”
Noah saw my Twitter post, and his hands started shaking uncontrollably.
“Why, Ella? You don’t want me anymore?”
Lily, no one even saw her come in, walked right up to Noah.
“Noah, Ella just didn’t know how to cherish you.”
“You still have me. I’m not going anywhere, Noah.”
Noah just shoved her away.
“This is all because of you! Why are you always around me?”
“Why are you always here?”
‘Ella wouldn’t have left me if it wasn’t for you!”
Lily stared, her eyes red.
“Noah, how could you say that to me?”
“She’s gone, Noah. I’m the one here.”
Noah ignored her, tears welling in his eyes.
“It’s not your fault. It’s mine. All mine.”
The assistant looked at Noah.

“Noah, what now?”
“The wedding announcements are already hitting online.”
Noah looked around at everyone.
“I don’t believe she’d really leave me. She only has me.”
He stood, grabbing the mic.
“Everyone, thanks for coming today.”
“But due to some… unforeseen circumstances, we have to put the wedding on hold.”
“I’m sure you’ve all seen Ella’s Twitter post.”
“We have some misunderstandings. I screwed up, I made her angry.”
“Ella and I aren’t breaking up that easily.”
“I’m getting her back.”
“We’ll definitely invite you all back for the real thing, soon.”
With that, he walked out.
His video absolutely blew up online.
Some praised him for being brave and fighting for love. Others called him fake, saying he was just doing it for the money.
I just chuckled when I saw it.
I knew he wouldn’t let go easily. Didn’t matter though.
Because I wasn’t going to go soft on him again.
As soon as we landed in Paris, I got Mom checked into the hospital.
I’d done my homework. This doctor was a neurology specialist.

I knew the chances of Mom ever walking again were slim. But if she could at least get around in a wheelchair, that was something.
And after the last accident, her comas were lasting longer too.
The doctor checked her out and said her condition wasn’t as bad as we’d initially thought.
My heart instantly lightened. I looked at Mom, lying there in bed, my eyes getting misty.
Back when I got hit, Mom had held me so tight, shielding me.
She’d covered my eyes, so I wouldn’t see that monstrous face. She told me:
“My daughter just needs to remember the good things in this world.”
My mom, who was always so frail, had turned fiercely brave when protecting her daughter.
She finally decided to divorce him the first time he tried to lay a hand on me.
But her bravest act left her critically injured.

When Noah came into my life, he was the only light in my dark world.
I thought that light would be mine forever, and only mine.
But in the end, it was all just a mirage.
