Chapter 102

Lydia

They are my flesh and blood. He insisted. How is Melanie?I hate the way he called her name. I don’t want to hear him do so again

You only remember to ask after her now?I sneered

Let me make myself clear, Mr. Woods. There are some wrongs you can never right, some mistakes that can never be corrected, and when you walked out of my life five years ago, that was done.I began walking back to my chair

I took a tissue and dabbed the side of my face. I’d appreciate it if you don’t try to corner me in my office or elsewhere. Stay away from me and the twins, and also,I paused and turned to look at him

If you ask as much as try to fight with me for custody, I promise I’ll make your life more hell than I originally intended. Trust me, I can do that now.”

Lydia, I know you are angry and understand how you feel. We can come to an agreement.”

No, you are wrong. You do not understand how I feel, and we’re done talking.I switched on my laptop. Don’t let the door hit you behind.I didn’t raise my head until I heard the door open and close

I released a sigh of relief when he was gone, clutching my chest

couldn’t concentrate on anything for the rest of the day, so I left. Before I left, I asked Mia to look into the one thing that kept bugging my mind

How did Victoria know about Melanie? I had asked Zoe, and she told me she didn’t call her, Zoe sounded sincere, so there

was no need to doubt her

When I got home, I told Mom about the conversation I,had with Mason

Since he already knows, won’t it be best if you just allow him into the twinslife? She asked. I shook

my

head

No, I can’t. He will take them away at the slightest change he gets.” I stood from her bed, which I had been eating at, and began pacing the room

He already has Julia, who is pregnant.”

We know Julia isn’t truly pregnant,” Mom reminded me. That’s for him to deal with. For now, he should focus on his pregnant fiancée.” Mom took hold of my hands and led me back to bed, and we sat

Maybe I should leave with the twins.”

Forget about revenge, I would rather be with my babies than have to ever worry about them being taken away from me. And now Victoria knows, I don’t trust her not to harm them

I’ll go to a place Mason will never be able to find us.My entire body shook as I imagined a life without my twins. It was a life I didn’t want to live

Chapter 102

Mom wrapped one hand around me and pulled me to her. I buried my head on her shoulders and began to cry, Letting all my bottled up emotions out

Later that evening, Mia sent me a message. Victoria had Zoe tailed. She knew about the twins by watching Zoe closely

As I stood in front of the window, my phone rang, Mason was calling. I ended the call and walked back to the bed

one more person to worry about, Victoria.”

I realised aside from Mason, I had

Mason’s POV

Lydia refused to take my calls. All the effort I made to reach her P.A. and ask that a meeting be arranged was in vain. She

was truly set on not seeing me.

I pulled over a few feet away from her building. Staying here mornings and evenings has become a part of my schedule

I watched the gate closely, waiting to see the twinscar pull out. It has been over two weeks since I saw Lydia at her office. These two weeks have been hell for me. Since she wanted me nowhere close, I decided to give them space. I’ll watch her and the twins from a distance

I mastered her schedule. She takes the twins to school herself in the morning and brings them back at noon. She returns home early, I guess, to spend time with them

One hand was on my steering wheel, my eyes trained on the black gate as it slowly pulled open. However, a white Mercedes drove out, in contrast to Lydia’s black Audi

The front windscreen was wound down. I gritted my teeth when I saw Marcus seated behind the steering wheel. Lydia was seated with him, and the kids were at the back

Lydia laughed at something he said, and I felt my insides turn. They look happy, like one big happy family, and for a moment, I refused to follow them

After dropping them off, Marcus dropped Lydia at her office. He stepped out first, opened the door and when she alighted, he pulled her into a tight hug

4 curled my fist around my steering wheel. That moment my phone beside me began to ring

Julia’s name appeared on the screen. I have been avoiding her call and had pushed the wedding back without any explanation. I ended the call and turned my phone off

I watched Lydia enter the building and Marcus drive away

I pushed one hand into my hair and wiped my face before igniting the engine and driving away

Julia was waiting for me in my office. She placed her hand on her waist and puffed out her chest when she saw me

No, I am not ready for this. You’ve been avoiding my calls, Mason.”

Chapter 102

I’ve been busy,I said. I’ve been avoiding everyone. Zoe has been trying to speak to me. But I didn’t have time for her. Mor yet. She promised to explain things, but a part of me wanted to settle things with Lydia first

How busy have you been? No one is so busy that they have no time for their child or fiancee. Do you expect me to believe that? She yelled

I took off my jacket and hung it by the side before walking to sit behind my table

You pushed the wedding back, two times, Mason. Am I a joke to you? Do you have no regard for our child? People are talking.”

I massaged my temples. Her voice soon died out as I remembered Lydia’s words. You abandoned us first.I shook my head, wiping the memory

The image of Marcus pulling her into a hug appeared, and I brushed my hair with my hand

Mason, you can’t just outrightly ignore me.” Julia started bringing me back to the present

Tell me what’s wrong, and don’t even think about lying your way out. I know you’ve been seeing Lydia. Does your refusal to get this wedding done have anything to do with her?”

Julia, can we do this some other time? I’m really not in the mood for this.I turned on my laptop

No, I want to talk about this now. Mason, I do not deserve to be treated like this. She began to break down

She was right, I know that, but I can’t bring myself to face her. I love you, and you distancing yourself from me and doing all these things breaks me.She walked around the table

Before she could reach for me, I stood and grabbed my jacket. If she doesn’t want to leave, then I will leave

She tried calling me back, but it was to no avail. I walked out, leaving her behind

I drove to the twinsschool and parked at a distance. I’did my job from there, and soon it was time for the kids to go home. I see children being held by their parents piled out of the gate

When the crowd reduced, I could see Liam outside. Lydia wasn’t here yet

What was keeping her? It was unlike her to come pick them

up late

I stepped out of my car and walked forward. The security man just left, so the gate was left unattended. I opened the gate and closed it behind me

Melanie soon came

Liam was surprised to see me. Hey, you.He pointed at me. Something warm spread across my cl running towards him. He held Melanie’s hand and pointed at me, Do you remember him? We met him at the mall.Melanie didn’t seem to remember, but was glad Liam didn’t forget about me

What are you doing here? Do you have a kid in this school?Liam asked, and I nodded, my eyes moving between him and then Melanie

I have kids here, and they are standing in front of me right now

Chapter 102

Really? Who, tell me their names, maybe I’ll know them.”

Worst Fear Synopsis : Worst Fear

Lydia’s world was already a crumbling ruin long before she collapsed on the cold, bleach-slick tiles of Westgate Prison. She had been serving her sentence with quiet endurance, forcing herself to survive each monotonous day. Cleaning floors, enduring the harsh routine, and trying to numb her thoughts had become her way of life. But as she gripped the mop handle, her body betrayed her — dizziness washed over her, and before she could steady herself, the world went black.

When she regained consciousness, Lydia found herself lying on a thin mattress in the prison hospital. The sterile smell of disinfectant filled her lungs, and her head ached violently. A familiar figure stood by her bedside — Nurse Gloria, a kind-hearted woman often whispered about by the inmates for her compassion. Lydia had never personally interacted with her before; she preferred keeping her distance from everyone. But this time, she had no choice.

Gloria spoke softly, her voice calm and motherly. “You fainted during your shift,” she explained. Lydia, groggy and disoriented, nodded faintly. Fainting wasn’t unusual for prisoners — malnutrition, exhaustion, and stress were daily realities in Westgate. But Gloria’s next words didn’t fit the routine explanation. She leaned in, her tone serious and almost secretive. “I ran some tests to see why you collapsed.”

Lydia’s brows furrowed. Tests? The nurse’s expression made her heart race. Something was wrong. And then Gloria said it — words that hit Lydia like a lightning strike.

“You’re three months pregnant.”

For a moment, Lydia’s world went silent. The walls, the lights, the nurse — everything faded into a blur of disbelief. Pregnant? That couldn’t be right. Her throat went dry as she tried to process the impossible. Three months. Her hands instinctively flew to her stomach, pressing against the rough fabric of her prison uniform. There was nothing — no bump, no sign of life — yet Gloria’s certainty left no room for denial.

Lydia’s first reaction was refusal. “No,” she whispered. Her voice trembled. “That can’t be right.” But Gloria simply nodded, her expression heavy with empathy. “It’s right, Lydia. I double-checked the results myself.”

The truth settled like a stone in Lydia’s gut. The symptoms she’d ignored — the morning dizziness, the fevers, the missed periods — suddenly made sense. Deep down, she knew this was no mistake. Panic clawed at her chest as she realized what this meant. Her past — the one she’d buried so carefully since the day she was arrested — came rushing back. The man she had loved, the night she had tried to forget, the betrayal that had shattered her life.

Tears burned in her eyes, but she refused to let them fall in front of Gloria. She couldn’t afford weakness here. Her voice was barely a whisper when she pleaded, “Please… you can’t tell anyone. No one can know about this.”

Gloria studied her for a long moment. Lydia could see the internal conflict behind the nurse’s eyes — between her duty to report and her compassion for the broken woman before her. Finally, Gloria sighed softly and nodded. “I won’t say a word,” she promised. Relief washed over Lydia like a wave, but it was fleeting. Gloria wasn’t finished. “But you have to promise me something too. You’ll come back for regular checkups. No skipping, no excuses. You and the baby need to be monitored. Do you understand?”

Lydia nodded mutely, emotion choking her voice. She didn’t trust herself to speak. The nurse gave her hand a gentle squeeze before stepping away to inform the guards that Lydia needed rest.

The walk back to her cell felt endless. Two guards flanked her on either side, but she barely noticed them. Her mind was spinning, replaying Gloria’s words over and over — three months pregnant. Each repetition felt like a hammer blow. She stumbled into her cell, collapsing onto the thin, creaky cot. The metal door slammed shut behind her, sealing her inside with the suffocating truth.

She stared at the ceiling for a long time before curling up on her side. Her trembling hands hovered over her stomach, fear twisting in her chest. She could barely keep herself alive in this place — how could she protect an unborn child? Westgate wasn’t meant for fragile things. It was a graveyard of hope, a place that crushed even the strongest spirits. What kind of life could she possibly give her baby behind these bars?

The tears she had fought earlier now spilled freely, sliding down her cheeks as silent sobs wracked her body. She wrapped her arms tightly around herself, as if she could shield the tiny life inside her from the cruelty of the world beyond her cell walls.

For the first time in years, Lydia prayed. Not for freedom, not for revenge — just for strength. For the chance to protect this unexpected child growing inside her.

As she turned her hand, the faint glint of her wedding band caught her eye. The ring mocked her, its shine a cruel reminder of the life she had lost. Three months ago, everything had been perfect — or so she thought. Her marriage had felt like a fairy tale. Even though her in-laws despised her, she had still believed love could conquer everything. Her husband had been her safe haven, her anchor.

Until the night everything fell apart.

The memory was sharp and unforgiving — flashing lights, police sirens, his face twisted in disgust as she was dragged away in handcuffs. The betrayal in his eyes had hurt worse than the accusation itself. That image haunted her still, burned into her mind like a scar that would never fade.

Now, lying in that cold, dim cell, Lydia finally understood how deep her despair ran. The baby inside her was both a curse and a fragile glimmer of hope. A connection to the man she once loved — and the life she could never return to.

As exhaustion finally claimed her, her last thoughts were of him — the man she’d once trusted more than anyone. His expression, full of hatred and disbelief, was the last thing she saw before the darkness took her again.

And for the first time, Lydia realized she wasn’t just a prisoner anymore. She was a mother — trapped in a place where love and life were luxuries no one could afford. But no matter what, she silently vowed: she would find a way to protect her baby, even if it meant fighting the entire world from behind these bars.
