Chapter 103

Mason

Really? Who, tell me their names, maybe I’ll know them.his eyes shorie brightly, and he held my hand with both hands swaying it from side to side

Something warm spread across my chest. Melanie moved forward, too. I leaned down to meet his gaze

I wanted so badly to tell him the names of my kids

You are my son. It’s you and Melanie.I wanted to say, but I didn’t. Instead, I kept watching him move my hand

Would things have been different if I had been in their life from the start

Come on, tell me.”

Tell us,” Melanie said

“Can you take a guess?I said locking eyes with Liam and then moving it to Melanie. Who do you think it is?”

I can’t describe in words how this moment makes me feel. Having them this close

To hell with whatever anyone says, I’m fighting for them. I’ll do all I can to be in their lives. I may not have been there initially, but now, I want to be. They would want me to be

Or maybe not

For the first time, the thought of them hating me flashed across my mind. What did Lydia tell them about me

Is it Jason?Liam’s voice broke through my thoughts. I shook my head, wondering why he said that

No, take another guess.” My eyes moved to Melanie. Do you want to try?I asked. She looked reluctant to speak. She looked at Liam. Who gave her a slight nod, encouraging her to go on

It must be Marian. She looks just like him, too.”

No, this is not Marian’s dad. I know Marian’s dad.”

Then do you think it’s Dennis?”

Liam shook his head. I didn’t say a word, I just watched them

Just tell us. We can’t seem to guess who it is.Liam gave up first

I ruffled his head and pulled softly on Melanie’s cheek. Do you really want to know?I asked. They both nodded eagerly

Then, I’ll tell you if you promise to go get ice cream with me. Or noI paused and pretended to think for a while. How about going to the park with me?”

They didn’t get a chance to reply, Liam, Melanie.Lydia’s voice sounded behind us

Chapter 103

Hey, Mom.They echoed at the same time. I straightened and turned. They hugged Lydia, barely getting to her waist

I know Lydia won’t be pleased that I am here. And when she raised her head to look at me, I confirmed it

Hey, Lydia.I greeted first

Mom, do you know him?Liam asked. Melanie just held on to her mom’s hand. It was clear Liam was the hyper kid while Melanie was the quiet one

It’s the man I told you about, what do you think? Don’t they look alike?”

He has been telling Lydia about me

Hello, good day.She greeted. I knew at once she didn’t want the children to know that we knew each other

Hiyour kids arewonderful, pretty, fun, I couldn’t pick the right word to use. They are nice.I settled for that and facepalmed myself mentally at the same time

Really? That was all I could say

Yes. They are. I get that a lot.Lydia is trying to be nice and speak softly, but her sharp words betray her..

Liam tugged on her hand, Mom, what do you think, they look alike, right?”

No. I don’t think so.”

Come on, Mom.”

I said they don’t. Stop saying they do.” Lydia snapped. Liam’s face fell. Lydia closed her eyes and pressed her lips

together

Her face softened, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean toshe inhaled sharply. Mom is just stressed. He said

She met his height and hugged him. Liam’s eyes were red, tears filling to its brim

I curled my fist, trying to stop myself from reaching out to pat him and comfort him

Lydia stood straight, Let’s go.She pulled them forward without looking back at me. I stood rooted to the ground for a while. I didn’t know what to do or say. I wanted to hold Liam and comfort him, or at least do something for both kids

I was serious about an icecream date, or we could go to the park. But I knew Lydia would not want that, and I didn’t want to put her in a difficult situation with the kids

I watched her get into the car and drive off before going into my car. I ignited the engine and drove to her house. Knowing that was where she would be

I pulled at a distance like I normally do. Lydia’s car wasn’t outside. I waited for what seemed like hours

The sun had gone down, now replaced with dark clouds

Lydia’s car finally pulled out of the gate. I sat straight, ready to follow her. I needed to talk to her

I short She didn’t go in the direction I thought. Instead, she drove towards. Me, I felt like melting into my seat There

she’d have seen me. Right

She stopped at my side. Stepped out. In the next seconds, she was outside my windscreen. She knocked twice onl

1 straightened and inhaled sharply. She motioned with her fingers, asking that I wind down. I did as she requested

Follow me.She said

Me?I pointed at myself with a finger. Is there any other person here? Her voice is sharp. She started walking away. I opened my door, stepped out, and quickly walked after her

She stopped a few feet away from her building. She crossed her hands over her chest

What do you want? She asked. She didn’t wait for me to answer before she continued, It seems you’d keep this up if don’t speak to you.She dragged her breath and then pushed some hair strands off her face, tucking them neatly behind

her ear

Keep up what?I decided to act foolish. You know what I’m talking about. You are stalking me. I can report you for this, and it won’t be nice for you.She stared hard at me, all traces of the woman I once knew were gone

I’m sorry, I just wanted to see the kids.”

aces too

ey are my children, too. I had the right to be with them as she does

Is that why you went to their school?About that, I didn’t plan to go to their school. I just found myself there. And when! saw them waiting alone, I thought it would be good to go be with them for a while, at least keep them company before she came. That was all I did

But I’m not a fool, I knew telling her that was of no use

II just want to-”

Please save your

excuse.”

“Lydia, I know you are angry at me. And you have all the right in this world to be.I can’t imagine how much anger built up in her all those times when she raised the twins. Alone

But can we please talk about this? I know we can settle this somehow. At least, allow me to be in their life now.I took a step forward, Please.I said

She shook her head, looking me straight in the eyes, her face screaming, I’ve made my mind already and it won’t be changed.’

I can’t, I don’t want you to be in their life. We’ve been doing fine without you, and your knowledge of their existence won’t change anything but complicate things.”

I can already guess what she meant, but me being with Julia has nothing to do with this

Fuck that

I don’t even want to be with Julia

Chapter 103

You are already building your own family. You’ll have a son soon, just be with them and forget about us

I can’t,my voice rose higher than I wanted, but I don’t care. I am done hiding things, done trying to hold it all in

I don’t want to build another family,my eyes began to blur. I want you back. I already have a family

No, we are divorced, and you are engaged.”

Fuck the engagement, I can call it off, I don’t even love her. I don’t want this marriage.”

I don’t care what you do, just make sure it doesn’t rub me in any way. I am already known as a murderer, I don’t want to add home wrecker to the list.”

She paused and continued, I warned you the last time, but I’ll say it again, she stopped and tried to steady her breath, If I see you near the twins, I’m suing you for stalking. Good bye Mr. Woods. She said and turned to leave, but I caught her

hand

I wrapped my hand over hers, stopping her. No, I can’t promise you that.”

Why? Why can’t you do it? You already abandoned us once; you can do it again.”

I never abandoned you.I closed the distance between us by pulling her closer, I know you won’t believe me, stopped loving you, not then, and certainly not now.”

but I never

Worst Fear Synopsis : Worst Fear

Lydia’s world was already a crumbling ruin long before she collapsed on the cold, bleach-slick tiles of Westgate Prison. She had been serving her sentence with quiet endurance, forcing herself to survive each monotonous day. Cleaning floors, enduring the harsh routine, and trying to numb her thoughts had become her way of life. But as she gripped the mop handle, her body betrayed her — dizziness washed over her, and before she could steady herself, the world went black.

When she regained consciousness, Lydia found herself lying on a thin mattress in the prison hospital. The sterile smell of disinfectant filled her lungs, and her head ached violently. A familiar figure stood by her bedside — Nurse Gloria, a kind-hearted woman often whispered about by the inmates for her compassion. Lydia had never personally interacted with her before; she preferred keeping her distance from everyone. But this time, she had no choice.

Gloria spoke softly, her voice calm and motherly. “You fainted during your shift,” she explained. Lydia, groggy and disoriented, nodded faintly. Fainting wasn’t unusual for prisoners — malnutrition, exhaustion, and stress were daily realities in Westgate. But Gloria’s next words didn’t fit the routine explanation. She leaned in, her tone serious and almost secretive. “I ran some tests to see why you collapsed.”

Lydia’s brows furrowed. Tests? The nurse’s expression made her heart race. Something was wrong. And then Gloria said it — words that hit Lydia like a lightning strike.

“You’re three months pregnant.”

For a moment, Lydia’s world went silent. The walls, the lights, the nurse — everything faded into a blur of disbelief. Pregnant? That couldn’t be right. Her throat went dry as she tried to process the impossible. Three months. Her hands instinctively flew to her stomach, pressing against the rough fabric of her prison uniform. There was nothing — no bump, no sign of life — yet Gloria’s certainty left no room for denial.

Lydia’s first reaction was refusal. “No,” she whispered. Her voice trembled. “That can’t be right.” But Gloria simply nodded, her expression heavy with empathy. “It’s right, Lydia. I double-checked the results myself.”

The truth settled like a stone in Lydia’s gut. The symptoms she’d ignored — the morning dizziness, the fevers, the missed periods — suddenly made sense. Deep down, she knew this was no mistake. Panic clawed at her chest as she realized what this meant. Her past — the one she’d buried so carefully since the day she was arrested — came rushing back. The man she had loved, the night she had tried to forget, the betrayal that had shattered her life.

Tears burned in her eyes, but she refused to let them fall in front of Gloria. She couldn’t afford weakness here. Her voice was barely a whisper when she pleaded, “Please… you can’t tell anyone. No one can know about this.”

Gloria studied her for a long moment. Lydia could see the internal conflict behind the nurse’s eyes — between her duty to report and her compassion for the broken woman before her. Finally, Gloria sighed softly and nodded. “I won’t say a word,” she promised. Relief washed over Lydia like a wave, but it was fleeting. Gloria wasn’t finished. “But you have to promise me something too. You’ll come back for regular checkups. No skipping, no excuses. You and the baby need to be monitored. Do you understand?”

Lydia nodded mutely, emotion choking her voice. She didn’t trust herself to speak. The nurse gave her hand a gentle squeeze before stepping away to inform the guards that Lydia needed rest.

The walk back to her cell felt endless. Two guards flanked her on either side, but she barely noticed them. Her mind was spinning, replaying Gloria’s words over and over — three months pregnant. Each repetition felt like a hammer blow. She stumbled into her cell, collapsing onto the thin, creaky cot. The metal door slammed shut behind her, sealing her inside with the suffocating truth.

She stared at the ceiling for a long time before curling up on her side. Her trembling hands hovered over her stomach, fear twisting in her chest. She could barely keep herself alive in this place — how could she protect an unborn child? Westgate wasn’t meant for fragile things. It was a graveyard of hope, a place that crushed even the strongest spirits. What kind of life could she possibly give her baby behind these bars?

The tears she had fought earlier now spilled freely, sliding down her cheeks as silent sobs wracked her body. She wrapped her arms tightly around herself, as if she could shield the tiny life inside her from the cruelty of the world beyond her cell walls.

For the first time in years, Lydia prayed. Not for freedom, not for revenge — just for strength. For the chance to protect this unexpected child growing inside her.

As she turned her hand, the faint glint of her wedding band caught her eye. The ring mocked her, its shine a cruel reminder of the life she had lost. Three months ago, everything had been perfect — or so she thought. Her marriage had felt like a fairy tale. Even though her in-laws despised her, she had still believed love could conquer everything. Her husband had been her safe haven, her anchor.

Until the night everything fell apart.

The memory was sharp and unforgiving — flashing lights, police sirens, his face twisted in disgust as she was dragged away in handcuffs. The betrayal in his eyes had hurt worse than the accusation itself. That image haunted her still, burned into her mind like a scar that would never fade.

Now, lying in that cold, dim cell, Lydia finally understood how deep her despair ran. The baby inside her was both a curse and a fragile glimmer of hope. A connection to the man she once loved — and the life she could never return to.

As exhaustion finally claimed her, her last thoughts were of him — the man she’d once trusted more than anyone. His expression, full of hatred and disbelief, was the last thing she saw before the darkness took her again.

And for the first time, Lydia realized she wasn’t just a prisoner anymore. She was a mother — trapped in a place where love and life were luxuries no one could afford. But no matter what, she silently vowed: she would find a way to protect her baby, even if it meant fighting the entire world from behind these bars.
