I placed my glass to my lips and took a slow sip from the wine. After settling the glass on the table, I reached for my phone. The conference and subsequent tweet we made two days ago were still ranking number one on the search bar.
Lydia’s reputation was in shambles, and it is all thanks to Victoria’s brilliant plan. When she first told me about clearing Lydia’s name, I never thought it was just another plan to thrust her further than the pit of ruin, and it was more successful than the first.
Being able to expose Lydia’s true face to the world feels like an accomplishment. Such vile women should not be allowed to walk around freely in society. But something still bugged me. My hands on the screen paused, and I tilted my head to the side.
I understand the fact that Mason didn’t love me, but why would he choose the woman who murdered his stepdad and tore their family apart?
My phone beeped, pulling me out of my trance. Another message from another reporter with the message. “Hello, Miss Everett, it’s Jay from Kidar Newsroom. We’d like to have an interview with you. Please, will you be free?”
I’ve gotten a lot of texts and messages since the post was made, everyone wanted an interview. I twisted my lips to the side as I read the message one more time.
It won’t be bad to accept one. Without another thought, I typed back, “I’m free right now. Let’s meet.”
The reply came immediately, “Thank you.” It was accompanied by a location for the meeting.
When I got to the cafe where we’d be meeting, I was surprised to see that it wasn’t just any interview but a live. The cafe was empty, and aside from Jay, a cameraman, and an assistant, only one waiter who walked into the cafe was present.
“It’s so nice to have you with us, Miss Everett,” Jay said, his blue eyes alternating between my face and the iPad in his hand.
“My pleasure.” The live had not started yet, but the camera was being set. “Hmm… I know we didn’t tell you about it being live. We were just so happy that you finally accepted our invitation, we’ve been reaching out since the first conference.” He paused and pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose with his middle finger.
I had no idea they’ve been trying to reach out. “We’ll be asking questions about Lydia, well known as Alissa Brooks, and also about your relationship with Mr Woods,” rays of sunlight streamed in from the opened window by the side. I inhaled softly, looking out through the window, and a tree stood firmly right outside.
I returned my gaze to Jay, and he continued, “Here are the questions you’d be asked.” His assistant, who stood. by his side, handed him a file, which he then handed over to me. My eyes scanned the page. The questions were all personal questions, which would require me to go into details about my relationship with Mason and his stepfather’s murder.
“We’re going to start in five minutes, I’ll leave you to go through it.” He pushed his chair back, and stood then

walked away
“What caused your breakup with Mr Woods?
“How was your relationship with him?‘
“Did he cheat on you with Miss Alissa Brooks when he was dating you?”
“How do you feel about him having twins when you were once pregnant with his child?”

“What happened to your pregnancy?” I squeezed the paper when I hit that question. No, I won’t be talking about this. It truly was a mistake to have come here. I tossed the crumpled paper to the side and stood, grabbing my purse. Jay came running as I turned to the door.
He caught me at the exit, “Wait? What’s wrong? Do you not like the question?” He asked, and I was tempted to lash out at him. I opened my mouth to speak, then closed it, not sure what I’d say once I started.
“Are you uncomfortable with the questions?” He asked.
Yes, it’s about the questions. I wanted to scream in his face, but Victoria’s words rushed into my mind. “The public believes whatever you want them to believe, and she was right.
I smiled, loosening my hold on my purse, I turned to him, and my lips curved slightly into a smile. “Nothing.” He pushed his glasses, and a look of surprise flashed across his face, “Let’s go back, I’ll have the interview.”
I don’t know how Lydia killed her father–in–law. I never bothered to know the complete story because it didn’t matter. I can always go around the question.
We started immediately, and I tried to keep everything around Lydia.
“Did you suspect Mr Woods was cheating on you during your relationship with him?” Jay asked. “I mean, you accused Miss Alissa of being a mistress a few times.”
I paused for a second, my expression morphing into one of pain. I bit my lower lip, fiddling with my hand on the table, “Everyone says not to trust a man since it’s in their DNA that they will cheat.” I began, my eyes began to blur, “but that was never true because Mason loved me with all he had.” I raised my finger and wiped under my eyes with slow, deliberate movement.
“However, everything changed when she entered the picture. At first, I had no idea that she was his ex–wife, so I didn’t think too much when I saw them in compromising places. I-” Jay interrupted me.
“Comprising places? Can you explain more about that?” Jay asked.
I inhaled slowly, my eyes darting around, and then began, “I once saw them in his penthouse alone, naturally, I thought they were there for business. But thinking back, I don’t think so. Mason wore just trousers and no
shirt.”
“I’m not saying he cheated since I don’t have concrete proof, but I do know that she was always hovering around him, using business as an excuse to spend time with him.”
“Here,” Jay handed me a handkerchief, and I wiped the tears that fell on my cheeks.

Chapter 161
“I wish I could say Alissa has no hand in our breakup, but I can’t. We were so in love before she appeared. Mason loved me and never once spoke about her.”
“But why do you think he chose his ex–wife, who murdered his father, and placed his mother in agony over you?”
“You can never know a man’s heart.” I said, “From the few encounters I’ve had with her, I know she is very cunning; she must have manipulated him, using her twins as her excuse. But I think it’s time for everyone to know who she is. To see the evil woman she is beneath the facade.”
Jay’s attention was focused on me, and I went on, knowing he would believe whatever I said. “It took great courage to speak of this. But a woman like her should not be allowed in society. She murdered a man and is roaming about free. If that was a lie, then she should have said something.” My chest tightened in anger, “I dare her to come out and debunk these claims. She can’t.” I stated, fisting my palm.
From the corner of my eye, I saw Jay’s assistant walking towards us from the side. His eyes were wide with panic as he handed Jay his phone. “If she does, if she proves that this is a lie, then I’ll kneel and ask for forgiveness.”
Jay scratched the tip of his nose, raising his eyes to me. I squinted, wondering what was wrong, “It seems Miss Alissa Brooks just held a conference of her own. It just concluded five minutes ago.” He handed me the phone, and as I held it, I froze. In the video, she was seated beside Mason.
“Miss Everett, what do you have to say about this video? You just said she wasn’t rebunking your claims because she is guilty, but it seems she has done that already, so what do you have to say about this?” Jay asked, he went on, but I was too busy reading the article he showed me to hear him.
“She asked for proof. What proof do you have that she killed her father–in–law?” I stood up abruptly, slamming his phone on the table.
“I have a headache, we should stop the interview right now.” I didn’t wait for him to continue before rushing out of the cafe.
My hands shook as I held the steering wheel. Why was Mason by her side? Why did she have to do a conference at the same time I was being interviewed?
Why would she ask for proof, and why was Mason standing by her side? I drove to the one place I knew I could get answers. The Woods’s mansion. What I didn’t expect was to see Lydia’s car entering the mansion as well.
